Topic: RE: In pain and so exhausted since surgery...
The massage therapist she wants me to see does specialize in myofascial massage. I've seen her before a few years ago, but it still hurts me when I have it done. My PCP does not give me any pain meds and ultram interfers with some other meds I take. I had been taking Neurontin for RLS & PLMD, but had recently stopped it because I didn't think it was helping with those disorders. However, it now seems that while it wasn't helping those, it definitely was keeping my FM pain at bay. So we just discussed going back on the Neurontin. Hopefully that will help me in the end.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!

Myself I wouldn't have my primary recommend fibro treagtments unless they are specialized in it. Deep tissue massage is the very last thing your want to do with fibro. Massage is good but you need someone who knows how to do myofascial massage to unknot the tissues the correct way. Does she give you anything for pain like a prescription pain med? That would be more helpful for a flare up. Try to find a good pain intervention clinic that knows how to treat fibro or sometimes rheumatologists are better equipped to treat fibro than a primary care doc. I wish I had better suggestions for you but that's about all I can tell you.

Topic: In pain and so exhausted since surgery...
I am 5 1/2 weeks post op and down 20lbs since surgery. I went to see my pcp yesterday and my bp was a little on the high side of 133/96. So she put me back on bp meds . But what is worrying me more than that is the sheer exhaustion and pain I'm having from FM and CFS/ME. My doc did some labs to make sure the fatigue and exhaustion isn't caused by any vit deficiencies. The results come back this morning and all are normal, so she feels its a flare up. Yay me...NOT. She wants me to have a deep tissue massage for the FM pain and if you have ever had one of those, you know they just about kill you! At least they do me, it hurts so bad, really worse than the FM pain itself. So I don't know whether I should have one done now or wait until I'm in less pain. Any thoughts/suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Topic: RE: What if you have something else besides Fibromyalgia?
In January 2001, I was in a head-on automobile accident . Ever since then, I have had excruciating pain all over my whole body that has gotten worse every year.
Right after the accident, I let a family member talk me into seeing a chiropractor. That was a big mistake, he made me hurt worse. $5,500.00 and 8 months later, I finally lied to him and told him that I was better just so he would release me from his care.
Since then, I have been to doctor after doctor, specialist after specialist and test after test....Nothing....They couldn't find anything......So, they starting telling me that I have fibromyalgia.  I thought, finally, I have a diagnosis...a name for what I have. Unfortunately, nothing they did and nothing they prescribed helped.
Fast forward to now....I was in SO much pain...I could barely walk. I couldn't sleep, I had no life. My husband's friend noticed how miserable I was all the time, and he recommended that I go see this chiropractor that he had been seeing. I'm sure you already know what I was thinking about that. Since he referred me, the first visit that included xrays and exam would cost $50 instead of $300. I thought, ok, I have spent thousands out of pocket over the years; what is $50.
I kid you not, I limped into this man's office, talked to him and sat there and cried like a baby. He asked me if I would allow him to help me, and I said yes.
My xray showed that I have scoliosis, a broken tailbone, 2 bone spurs, arthritis, twisted hips, and degenerative disc disease.
This chiropractor uses the Gonstead method. Google it, If you've never heard of it. He uses a meter that detects heat/inflammation in the spine. This helps him know where you need adjusted. He xrays you every 10 visits, so you can see your progress/changes. This also helps him determine where and if you need adjusted. The chiropractor I saw before xrayed me one time when I started seeing him and that was it. He just layed you down and started cracking everything.
This chiropractor has changed my life. That very day, that very visit, after just one adjustment, I walked out of his office pain free and still crying, (but tears of joy). I no longer hurt all over. Don't get me wrong, I still have days when I have some discomfort in my lower back, especially if I am very active.
The first week of treatment , I slept so hard that I had a hard time waking up. No sleep aid....nothing! I  haven't slept like that in years. I couldn't believe it....I'm still having a hard time believing it.
After all these years..... antidepressants, pain meds, doctor after doctor telling me that it was all in my head, wanting to give me injections, wanting to do surgery, and just days before I saw the chiropractor, I had an orthopaedic doctor tell me that it was just something that I was going to have to live with.
I am still finding it all hard to believe. I really thought the rest of my life (or lack of) was going to be misery and pain. I know everybody is different, but I'm telling you as living proof, if you find the right one, maybe a chiropractor can change your life, too.

Can you move the stickers back up where they belong at the top. It makes it difficult to see when members write when they are down in the body of the discussion.

Topic: RE: FMS ....RNY....BABY.....2 yrs late no weight loss...HELP!!
I'm a bandster so not alot of info on the RNY issues but does sound like maybe a stricture starting or who knows what else it's good that it's getting checked. It's great that you are back to the gym that has to help(eventually). The fibro often causes tiredness too and babies just don't care if you're tired huh? Does your fibro cause pain too that keeps you awake at night because sleep is really important. If sleep is an issue you might try an over the counter remedy like dyphenhydramine (Benedryl) I use it every night and sleep like a baby myself. If it is a matter of day to day pain you may need to see your doc for something like cymbalta or savella altho all that has helped me is a fentenyl patch. Anyway if the fibro itself is the problem do see your doc otherwise go back to weight loss basics: dense protein and low carb meals. It may take more work the second time around but I bet you can do it!

I am in alot of pain. I breastfed for 9 motnhs and all I took was tlyenol for pain. When I stopped BFing I put on another 20lbs. So I back at 66lbs gained. I am severely tired after 5pm, for caring for my son. I have joined the gym again and feel blah constantly. I am having issues with swallowing food and I am having a upper GI this coming Wednesday. I also suffer from extreme constipation. Right now I have a Internal Hemoroid (sorry if TMI). I need to lose this weight. I am here looking for answers and friends.

Topic: RE: Chronic fatigue syndrome and not getting enough to eat...help? X-Post
You need to learn to say no, nicely but no none the less. I can't even imagine going out of state and taking care of someone else this soon after major surgery! It's no wonder you are tired and exhausted, sometimes when you have CF you have to just say no, I know it was your mom and all but seriously you've had your insides rerouted and are living on next to no calories you are still in recovery and need to be concentrating on yourself and rebuilding your strength. I would suggest you take it easy for a week or two and concentrae on you, it's perfectly OK to concentrate on just you. With CF you have to pace your life, when you are tired rest, when you have a good day get things done but don't go all out or you'll pay for it the next day. I would suggest you get on the internet and really study up on the disease. That way you can see how to deal with it and maybe even join an online support group. If you don't take care of yourself no one else will! Good luck to you, hopefully you'll start feeling better when you catch up with some rest.
