It's always great news when our meds work so well. I used the patch once when my hip was bad (before replacement) and I remember it was awesome no pain whatsoever. Hope this continues to work for you!

Sorry but I agree with the others that surgury didn't help at all. You may not be able to use NSAIDS but there are tons of other meds including narcotics that are available to use for the pain. I haven't read the book but there are lots of books available to help you learn more about fibro, the more you know and understand the disease the more you can deal with it. I have read about using guiafenisin but frankly am skeptical as to why it would work. Maybe others here have more info on that. Anyone with fibro just has to learn as much as possible about the disease and how it affects them because each person is different. Best of luck to you and larn to be patient with yourelf!

Hi,
As some of you may know, I use the fentanyl pain patch and the Norco as a break through med.
Well, I was needing the Norco more than I should because I was still having pain in my hips and knees when I would bend down, and my job consists of bending down to organize bottles (I work for a French bottle manufacturing company) and I play in wine bottles all day. Anyway, I told my pain dr to bump up the Norco, but they said they wanted to bump up the patch.  ok I will give it a try.  So I went from 25mcg to 50mcg on the Fentanyl patch.  (Fentanyl is a heavy duty narcotic med that is in a category all by itself) It isn't morphine, or codine or opiates.  Man, I don't even need the Norco and I have no side effects from the patch and I can't even tell I use med except when it is time to change it.  (it itches after a shower though).  I feel so much better.  Goin to play for the weekend, have a nice day.

I just read that you can't take pain relievers!  Why?  I don't mean to pry but when you have Fibro you need a narcotic medication to help you live your life.  The Cymbalta and others just take the edge off.  Is it personal why you can't take the meds or due to your RNY?  Please let me know, so we can help you.  If it is because of your stomach, try the pain patch and ok, I will wait til you reply.

You might as well start looking for a pain dr. now. I never answer posts here but I guess Im in a talkative mood. I started with my primary dr. He sent me to 3 different Rheumotologists for mths at a time each. It was my third Rheumy *****commended the pain clinic.

Ive been going there for the last 15 mths. I pretty much know what helps me now(NOT MUCH OF ANYTHING). Lyrica almost killed me. I went psyhco. I was getting worse and worse everyday until the day I decided to end it all. My sister called and told me to not take another step and call the dr. right then. Otherwise I wouldnt be here. Lyrica also put me into congestive heart failure.

Be very careful with the meds. Some are very powerful and most people get no relief. My massage therapist helps alot with the back and neck pain. Good luck. I would welcome you to the board but I wouldnt wish this disease on anyone.

Oh you'll never believe how I broke my leg! I was cleaning under my bed so I had the matt and box up against the wall, when I stepped over the frame I caught my foot, fell and kinda ricochetted off the wall. As I was coming down my leg hit the arm of my computer chair and bent my leg backwards at the knee, snapped the top of my tibia right off the major part off the bone. Got to ride in the ambulance and spend 5 days in the hospital. I guess I have a plate and a bunch of screws in it that will be left there. Plus I have to spend another 4 weeks in a brace, no bending or putting any weight on that leg. Not exactly how I planned to spend the end of summer! So let this be a lesson to all you ladies, no more house cleaning it's far too dangerous!!!

HI,
Why would a fibro specialist want to run tests?  You can't diagnose Fibro with tests other than what the other members mentioned.  Tell your PCP or pain clinic doctor, (try to get into one of those) and tell them you want not need medicine.  I use Fentanyl patch and Norco as a breakthrough med.  This combo is good for me.  You can't live with just taking Lyrica.  These people don't understand how the pain is for us.  If we find a med that works, but doesn't take all the "flu" like symptoms away, they won't bump our meds up.  A pain clinic will though.  Let us know what you are able to achieve with the docs.  Best wishes to you.

I can't take pain relievers so I'm not familiar with Mobic.  My fibromyalsia has NOT gotten any better after RNY.  The only thing it did was make the doctors stop blaming the pain on my weight.  I am still very tired, still forgetful, still foggy, and still very much in pain.  I am walking with a cane now even though I'm down 70 pounds.

However, I will say that the surgery got my blood sugar back to normal and I no longer have sleep apnea.  At least I don't think so anyway. :)

I hope the surgery helps you in other ways, but I wouldn't count on it for fibro relief.

Hello!  I wish I could tell you RNY would for sure help you, but for me it has not. Mobic is a NSAIDS and RNY patients are not suppose to take it. I also take Cymbalta and Norco for pain. I haven't read the book about Fibro but am very interested in reading it. I have found we have to be our own advocate with our physicians because some understand it or don't want to. Keep on the boards and the best of luck to you! I am 217 pounds lighter!  Katrina
