Topic: RE: Fibromyalgia and Surgery
Thank You, HisLady for giving me the "straight facts" about the surgery not helping the fibro pain etc... I'm a realist. I want to know the good, bad, ugly and the worst of scenarios before surgery. I want to be able to make an informed opinion for my healthcare.
It means a lot to me that you told me fibro is rarely affected by surgery. I have Sjogren's syndrome and I'm looking forward to the weight loss decreasing the pain in my joints and bones.
I'm hoping you're feeling much better after all of those surgeries.
Thanks Again

Topic: RE: Checking in and update
I'm happy for you that you will get your surgery soon. Rest up now so that you have extra reserves for after the surgery. Pain clinic sounds like the right path to go down. My experience with the rhumatologists is that they have a hard time defining what to call our situation. Usually fibro and a cross over with some other auto immune thing, but until you get some other symptoms or bloodwork comes back with special problems, they don't know what to do to help. Pain management clinic at least can deal with that. I haven't been there yet, but plan to go soon.

I am so sorry you are in such a flare up. I know exactly what you are talking about. I do the same thing when I start to feel okay. Then I pay for it for weeks. This has been a hard week for me too. I stayed home on Monday because it felt like something was inside my bones eating away at the joints. Worked Tues and Wed, and then my husband was sick so I stayed home a nervous wreck Thurs and Fri. Today another flare up. I must get some rest this weekend so that I can make it to work on Monday.
I hate fibro. I hope you feel better in a few days. Don't worry about the house work it will be there later on. I have to let it go myself too and it is hard but we have no choice. I can't afford a housekeeper. Take care of yourself and rest. Gentle hugs .

Topic: RE: Fibromyalgia and Surgery
I had a different surgery but have also had at least a surgery a year for 5 years (lots of different kinds). I've not had any increase in fibro pain from the surgeries, maybe I'm just lucky because I've read where others do have flares after surgery. Mental stress seems to set me off for a flare. If I were you I'd wait to see if you need them but by all means if the pain increases do use the narcotics. You'll be on pain meds for awhile just from the surgery itself. Good luck with your surgery! Just a FYI the weight loss won't help the fibro pain but will help any joint or arthritic pain. Lots of folks go into surgery hoping it will help the fibro but it very rarely does.
Topic: RE: Weight Gain Question
Dear JoAnn, I am new and have fibro. I have tried zoloft, lyrica and cymb. I gained about 30 pounds and my legs and face were so swollen I could hardly walk or turn my head. Weight gain stayed. Swelling went down, also developed congestive heart failure. My sister used lyrica and the same happened to her. I think it should be banned from the market. Sorry I know it works for a lot of you, but it was so horrible for both my sister and I. Hoped this info was a help to you. Thank you Candace
Topic: Fibromyalgia and Surgery
Its been 6 months since being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I'm wondering if anyone has fibro and had the VSG surgery? If so, are there any issues I may need to be aware of?
In the last 6 months, I've gone from severe flare to no signs of fibro at all. I'm hoping this continues, but for how long?
My surgeon is considering putting me on narcotics for the pain during/after surgery. Anyone else with fibro had to do this?

Not only did I start so fast I did a lot of house work because my house look like some crazy live here. Now I'll be sick for a while.
It's been so long since I've been sick now I remember what it feel like. I'm going to have to hire someone to help me get my house in order to be able to enjoy anything around here. Lord I feel scrappy THANKS I'LL HAVE SOMETHING TO REMEMBER FOR ANOTHER LONG TIME.
