Topic: RE: fibro flare and WLS trouble
Before I got Dx with Fibro, I remember twitching like that.  I think it is the nerves since they are super sensitive to touch, I think this is there way of crying out that something is wrong. Remember feeling like you have the flu and every nerve in your body hurts?  Well.....that's it. Sometimes, I still have them, only in my arms but that could also be the meds wearing off.  But either way, it is fibro related I believe.  I am still on the patch and Norco and at the end of the 2nd into the third day, I can start feeling the over sensitive nerves.  That is what Fibro is.  It isn't a muscle disorder, it is overly sensitive nerves that make those areas, which are the fiberious areas the 4 quads. (hips, left, right, shoulder, left, right).  I am can say more but it is a big mess, but starts with the nerves.

Topic: RE: I suspect Fibro- obstacle for WLS?
Welcome! Yep it's always nice to know exactly what you have. I don't know of anyone who was denied because of fibro, in fact in some cases it can be a qualifying co morbidity depending on the insurance co. Personally I would suggest the VSG for anyone who doesn't want the malabsorption and associated issues. I have a band and it just hasn't worked for me partly because of the fibro. I can't get in enough exercise to accomplish any weight loss. I also have other mobility problems and lung disease so that contributes to the problem. With the band you either have to be a junk food junkie or a volume eater to lose, at least that's my opinion. You HAVE to be able to exercise or the band is ridiculously slow. I wish you good luck on getting a correct diagnosis and I would highly recommend the VSG.

Howdy,

In my quest to find out if WLS is possible for people with Lupus I came across Fibromyalgia info.  After reading the symptoms I am CONVINCED that I have Fibro instead. I just couldn't believe the Lupus DX; it didn't fit me unless I crammed the symptoms in!  I felt like I was faking Lupus you know?  I'll have to go to the rheumatologist for official word-

My question is: has fibromyalgia affected anyone's insurance or surgery approval?  And do most fibro/lupus people get VSG?  I hear the RNY is not friends with anti-inflammatories....

I have the same problem with pain meds. Sometimes just take the pain meds during the day and at night take 4 alieve and a muscle relaxer. Pretty much knocks me out. I would like to go back to the days of unlimited valuim prescripts. I was sooooo relaxed I had very little pain and nervous eating didn't exist! Good luck and God bless.

Well don't have an answer for you except you might call your doc and see if they can help. Usually those types of meds put everyone else to sleep. You must be an odd ball like me, I started Cymbalta and felt like I was using speed when most people get very sleepy on it. At least you aren't alone!
