Usually a rhumetologists Spelled wrong, can give you the diagnosis. There are certain trigger points and then they can tell by the pain you are having etc. But yes it does "feel like the flu"
all the aches and pains and the extreme tiredness. You need a doctor to check you over first.
Good luck!!!!

Topic: Anyone heard of drinking surfactants for pain relief???
My mom bought a product to help with my fibro pain. It's supposed to improve the immune system. But the weird thing is that the main ingredient is surfactants...soap. It's 1.25 oz of concetrated surfactants with color and flavoring added. Add 8 drops to 8 oz of juice or water. I don't think I can name the product on here but has anyone heard of this? I have to say that about 5 hours of taking it yesterday I had terrible intestinal upset. I had a RNY in 2004...I don't think this product is safe. How do I tell my elderly mother that she just paid $88 for a bottle of plain soap?

HI, Welcome to the site.
Fibro feels like you have the worst flu like pain in your arms and neck (mostly)  That is the best way to explain it to someone.  That is when the condition is "full blown" and not hiding anymore.  The first time I noticed anything, my arms felt like I pulled muscles in the shoulder area.  Then I felt nerves tingling and muscles twitches (some don't have all the same symptoms).  Very fatigued and even IBS comes with this.  But the most pain we all say the same is the flu like ache, can't touch me can't sleep feeling.  Hope this helps.  Kristy

Yes, I have fibro and take Cymbalta.  I haven't experienced any absorption problems.

Hi Karil,
I had the Rny almost 5 yrs. ago.  About 3 days after surgery, liquids, and protein, I asked my husband in a whiney voice of course "Why did I do this"?  He replied,  in a loving voice, "Because you are fat".  I said "Oh yeah".  and haven't second guessed it since.  I have lost 90 lbs and went from 230 lbs to 136-138 lbs. Kept it off.  I have Fibro and take meds for it.  I use the fentanyl patch and norco as a breakthrough med.  I am doing well with the bypass, fibro, but my only complaint is the fatigue.  You made a good decision, on which surgery to have.  Your surgeon would have recommended another one if he felt you weren't suited for the one you got.  Look at my profile.  I have on there a "Comparison Surgery Chart".  If you can't view it or find it email me and I will direct you to the website I got it from.  It is from where I had my rny.  The first month is the hardest to deal with it.  If you are head hungry, then dip you finger in sauce or juice that you family cooking but don't eat the food.  That will cause triggers (guilt) to go off.  But, if you sip a spoon of juices that will satisify the food monster.  Let me know if I can help.  We are all very helpful on this forum.  so either way, you will do fine.  Kristy

Hello,
Although i am only 8 days post op, of course i am already worried about gaining weight back after RNY.  Am i crazy? i have not even lost the weight!  I had RNY, have been bopping around the boards and am second guessing my decision.  LIke should i have had the duod switch (sp?)..  i don't even know that much about it, i am just for some reason, freaking out about the long term possiblity of really keeping weight off.
please, any people out there who have done this, and kept it off, and can give me hope?
thanks so much
