Well at least you have a diagnosis and know what you are dealing with. One piece of advice I can give you, as a long time sufferer with fibro, is you need to make peace with the pain! It is going to be with you for some degree the rest of your life. Don't let it control or ruin your life. Do your very best to stay normal and most of all stay as active as possible and that will vary depending on flare ups. You choose whether you stay miserable the rest of your life or whether you accept the situation and live as full a life as you possibly can. You make the choice. I've met people who just curl up on the couch the rest of their lives and ones who fight to stay normal so it's up to you what life you want to live. Not that it's easy by any means but it isn't going away so make friends with it. Good luck.

I hear ya sister.  I told my husband and grown daughter that i was going to knock their heads together All their whinng and complaiing about pain.  They don't know what pain like we have is.  Not only do i have fibro , myofascial pain, degenerative disc disease, 4 bulging discs, 2 nerves in my lumbar area have fused togetehr, anyway you get the idea.  I am in constant pain, and when i have a fibro flare on top of it all the last thing i want to hear is how they have a headache lol

I take cymbalta, i was not aware it is time relase.  It is available in delayed release, but not all cymbalta is like that.  I had surgery on the 10th of november, and at first i broke it open and ate it with applesauce.  Then at the 2nd week post op, i started taking my 30 mg 3 times a day.  Cause they are smaller.  Also, at week 2 i had a possibliity of infection in a seroma i developed at my largest incision site, and so i had to take levaquin daily and those are much bigger than my cymbalta 60 mg.

Hope this helps, good luck!!!  You should be fine with taking cymbalta either way you choose to.

Well now I know what it is.  Fibromyalgia.  Now I need to find out how to manage it.  The rhuemy wants me to see her FM specialist, who is going on maternity leave and I can't see her until MARCH 1!  I'm at a loss.  She gave me Flexaril for sleep, but that was all.  She wants me to see my primary to talk about Cymbalta...But I don't really have a primary.  I have a gal I saw here once *****ferred me to the rheumy...I'm new to this location, so now I'm shopping for a primary Doc.

UGH!!  I feel like I have waited all these months to be told to wait LONGER.  So I'm going to see if I can go elsewhere.  I'm totally frustrated.  And not getting anywhere.

According to my pain specialist he said to be sure to leave the capsule intact because it's a time release drug and needs to be in the capsule, so I've always taken it that way. You might ask your pharmacist they should know for sure how to take it. Sometimes they know lots more than the docs!

I understand your concerns I have the same ones! I am hoping that I will still be able to take it. It is the only thing that has really worked for me. Danielle

I am on cymbalta and having surgery on Monday. Do you swallow the cymbalta capsule whole or open it? I am at a loss as to how to take it. Both of my doctors seem confused about it. Anyone still taking it after RNY? I am so scared of a bad flare up after surgery. Anybody with advice it is greatly appreciated. Danielle

Topic: more pain since surgery
Had rny in march and feel like pain increased from my fibro. can't take my motrin anymore, only celebrex which does nothing for me. Have had to increase amount of vicodin and soma and lyrica I take just to get by. I'm a nurse, and don't take when working, so in lots of pain all day now. Also, I think since i've lost more than 100 pounds, can move  better, so probably do more activity than used to, so more pain. Don't know how I'll keep working another 15 years. Just seems like pain worse and constant now.

It ould also be the cymbalta. I felt like I was on speed when I first started it and had to lower the dose and "creep up" to the dose I was Rx'd. I too as awake half the night and all jittery. It went away after awhile but for a few days I felt crazy. Most people it makes sleepy but not me!
