Topic: RE: Dissability Retirement
Hi there! Hope you are not suffering much today! The cold here is making me hurt  and making my screws and rods in my back pull with nerve pains down my leg.  Hope I wont have a winter like the last one and thought the 2nd surgery last year fixed this pain, didnt know it was related to the cold.
Ok sorry for my ramble.

I got my disability denied the first time but it was mostly focused on depression and a bad stomach issue at the time. I continued to try and return to work twice, once for 9 days, the 2nd time for 4. During that time my pain levels from fibro and a blown disk were increasingly debilitating. I certainly tried as I had a good paying job, had left my husband and too much going on to mentally deal with.  The reason for denial was that I may not be able to do my current job but could do something for work.
I filled out my paperwork the next time based on my worst days. It was true that I was afraid to go out of the house on bad days from fear of falling, someone bumping me with a buggy and anxiety of just dealing with people. The misery was obvious on my face at work, home and when I was out in public.
My drs records clearly stated the same info I filled out in my papers. I tried those 2 times to go back to work even though my drs didn't think I would be able, they let me try. It put off my approval date for disability but also showed a good effort. Between the pain and the meds I was on I simply could not concentrate to work. I was shocked when it got approved in less than 3 months at 34 yrs old. I called DDS (Disability Determination Services) ,, the people who approve or deny your case, to see if all of my drs had sent in my records. They had all but the info from a rhuematologist that had confirmed fibro and other joint issues. I called the dr myself, had them faxed to me(not all will do this) and sent them to DDS immediately. It is important for you to have copies of all your records to make sure the Dr has included all the info that will match what is on your paperwork you filled out. If not you can visit again and have it included and forward the new  records in yourself.
When I got my approval I sent in to ask for a copy of my records and approval paperwork. I never had to visit a disability dr. On the approval it referenced excerpts from my drs records, Mri's, function tests to back up the approval. I got a disk with disabilities paperwork they did, as well as copies of drs records , radiology reports that they based it on. I had referenced the physical and mental parts of my disability on my paperwork.
I hope this may help. If you have any questions you can PM me on here with your email. All of this started post wls about a year or so after. I had been told lose weight and it will all get better, then it got blamed on no cushion. The dr even giggled after he told me it was b/c of no cushion. I pressed for referrals to drs until I got help and diagnosis I needed. I had been to drs on and off for pain, trigger point knots for years pre wls only to be handed a nsaid and told losing weight would help. I think the damage was done pre wls and had gotten to far. All of us get some level of osteo arthritis, some never have pain from my research and drs advice. The weight had not helped anything as it was very advanced for me as well as degenerative disk disease DDD.
Sorry for the book but only way I know how to explain it. No one wants to give up a career. Sometime we have to to survive, you paid it in.

Glad you don't have to wait until March--that is toooo long!  I agree, it's difficult, but making peace with the fact that you're going to have pain, you're going to have good days and bad days and (unfortunately) a few people who won't understand.  I cried for two days after I was diagnosed, then started seeing what I could do about it.  So you personally have my permission to have a 24-48 hour breakdown (it felt good to get it out).!   If you are able or have access, swimming (I like the water aerobics) helps a lot.  Hopefully they'll put you on some meds that will also help.

I'm sorry this has happened to you (sorry for all of us, really), but everything will be ok--it will.  You hang in there, and if for some reason you don't like that doctor, get another.  (I wasted so much time with someone who did not help me).

Topic: RE: more pain since surgery
Sorry about all your pain. I do understand. I had a brief period of alot of relief when the weight was flying off. Was elated at the increase of mobility and know happiness helps alot, stress affects us a whole lot. I had to go on disability after surgery due to fibro and DDD, advanced OA. Got told it would all go away after wls but if that were true why do naturally small people have back and body pain. I had a great job too and its hard to give up and takes time to accept it. I lost alot of friends due to pain issues, 2 back surgeries affecting my ability to rip and run with them. Glad they can handle it and pray that lasts for them. Hurts to be their friend when life is good but when it goes sour for me they do not want to hear it. Reap what you sow, dont wi**** on them but know how life works.
Hope you get a pain regimen that will work for you. After 2 back surgeries alot of meds do not help me either.
Hugs and hopes for better pain relief for you!

Topic: RE: RNY & Cymbalta

My primary doctor has suggested Cymbalta for depression and fibromyalgia. I am currently taking Celexa. It doesn't seem to be working as well as it has in the past.
I had RNY in June 2008. I learned that I had to put my Celexa in a cup of water and then drink it otherwise I didn't receive any benefits.

My questions is - do you do anything special when taking Cymbalta? How is the absorption? Also, any side effects you dealt with.

Topic: Health Tracker Updates In Time For The Holidays - Profile Integration and Workouts

Today we released a couple of major updates to Health Tracker just in time for the holidays (as we continue on the path to Health Tracker world domination :). These updates include, 1) Profile display of Health Tracker - If you choose to, you are now able to display/share your Health Tracker within your personal profile. This can be kept completely private, it can be shared with only your friends or with the entire ObesityHelp community. 2) My Workouts - You are now able to build and store custom workouts that can be used over and over again. My Workouts will allow you to log multiple exercise/activity items at one time so you don't have to search for individual exercises each time you want to log your activity or exercise session.

Profile Display of Health Tracker .

The profile display of Health Tracker includes Body, Food Log, Exercise Log and the Macronutrient Report. As mentioned above, this can be kept entirely private or you can choose to share your Health Tracker information with friends, family, your bariatric surgeon or other clinicians.

In order to see the profile view of Health Tracker, when viewing your profile or another member's profile, look for the Health Tracker link to the right of the avatar. If there is no Health Tracker link, the profile view of Health Tracker has been set to private.

The privacy settings for Health Tracker can be found in the "Settings" section of My OH. To access your Health Tracker setting click My OH at the top of any page on ObesityHelp, select "Settings" on the left, click the Health Tracker tab and choose the "Sharing" option. Or, just click here to access your Health Tracker Sharing options :)

Workouts

My Workouts makes it quick and easy to log routine exercise and activity. For those who perform similar exercises on a regular basis, with My Workouts you can create a workout consisting of a series of exercises you often perform and instead logging each exercise indivivudally, My Workouts allows to log a single item (a workout) that contains all of the exericses you have performed. Build it once and log it any number of times.

Under My Workouts you will see a list of workouts that you have created and saved. You can log workouts directly from My Workouts by selecting "I did this", choose the day and click "Save"

You can also search for workouts you have created directly from your Exercise Log.

Create your first workout now!

One other addition

For your convenience, in this release we have also made some changes to the account deactivation process. In case you ever have the need to deactivate your ObesityHelp account, you can access this function by clicking My OH at the top of any page on ObesityHelp, select "Settings" on the left, and under the "General" tab select "Manage". Instructions for deactivating your account can be found there.

Have a great Thanksgiving and look for more updates soon!

Topic: RE: I suspect Fibro- obstacle for WLS?
I too have Fibromyalgia and was taking Lyrica until about 3 months ago. The FDA approved Savella for treating Fibromyalgia recently and it's working like a charm for me plus its not an Nsaid.

Savella is an FDA-approved treatment for fibromyalgia.1 Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain and additional symptoms which may make it difficult to work or to perform everyday activities. Savella is a type of medication known as a dual reuptake inhibitor (also known as a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, or SNRI).1

Savella is not used to treat depression, but it acts like medicines that are used to treat depression (antidepressants) and other psychiatric disorders.

Thank you!  I have been trying to make peace with it.  But the more people that I find out have it the better I feel about it.  My husband has already accused me of being a victim of it.  And that makes me feel horrible, because all my life, I've been given lemons, but never let myself become the victim until now.

I have made a doctor appointment with someone a gal I work with recommended (she has FM too)
.  I am going to see him next week and my co-worker swears by him.  So that makes me feel better, knowing I don't have to wait until March 1 to see someone.
