Topic: RE: more pain since surgery
I am almost 4 years post-op and my pain is much  much worse on the average than it was pre-surgery.  I never realized just how petite (what a strange word to  me) I am nor how flat and knobby my tailbone is!  I had to go to the place to renew my driver's lisence the other day and I sat on those hard plastic chairs for three hours, I thought I was gonna die:-(  I am also a nurse but am now running a large Medical Records Department with 4 staff.  I had hoped to lose the weight and feel better, thus go back to nursing but it's not happening for me:-(  So I realize that if this old gal wants to wor****il I can afford to retire (and Uncle Sam still has SS funds for me) then I know I gotta work a job that's alot less stress, alot less physical.  I also take MSM, the usual vitamins we're told to take post-surgery and at night I take tofranil to help me sleep, requip for the restless leg stuff which  helps alot, half a percocet and a quarter of an Ambien.  I sleep much better which really helps with the pain/brain fog the next day.  I went back on 600 mgs of Motrin TID too a year after surgery.  I've had no issues with it whatsoever.  But I always take it with food.  One thing I've learned that with me, less is more.  I do better overall.  I also do not do processed carbs, only real food passes these lips which has been shown to also help with fibro flare ups.  I think it's vital to figure out what works best for us individually and then stick with that, tweaking if we need to as we go.  I believe that for those of us with special issues that that is the only way we will have the optimal quality of life in the long run.

Topic: RE: Fibro and Hypoglycemia
This is exactly my own story.....I have fibromyalgia and would have the occasional low blood sugar episode pre-surgery.......now I hurt more because of being very bony on my rump (tailbone, flat ass) and I have low blood sugar episodes at least 3 times a week.  And there's no rhyme nor reason to it.  I'll eat something one time and no problems, I'll eat it again and I drop to the high 40s/low 50s within three hours.  My primary just has me monitoring it.  I just hate it.  I was not diabetic pre-surgery but I did have metabolic syndrome, which is a pre-diabetes state.  I carry packets of raw sugar on me at all times along with little packs of peanuts.  I eat the sugar immediately to get the blood sugar back up quickly and then follow that with the peanuts which are a balance of protein/healthy fat and natural carb which keeps it up.  I have an intolerance to wheat so I can't do those little packets of peanut butter or cheese crackers that folks here seem to do who have this issue. Actually a straight sugar followed with a complex carb (glass of orange juice with a couple packets of sugar) in it is an old nursing home nurses trick:-)  And yeah, I am one:-)  Anyways...I know it's frustrating because if you're like me, you had this surgery partially to prevent getting diabetes and although it's called reactive hypoglycemia....it feels like it's diabetes to me.  Which ****** me off.  No one told me that this was a possibility pre-surgery, no one in my local support group talked about it, my surgery did not tell me it was a possibility......but regardless I know this is where my body is at and somehow I gotta just wrap my brain around it, scratch my ass and get past it.

I hope you're able to do the same............I totally hear what you're saying though.....

Topic: Fibro and Hypoglycemia
I've been battling hypoglycemia since surgery.  Prior to WLS I was not diabetic, but developed low blood sugars after surgery.  I also see that hypoglycemia can be related to fibro.  I was wondering how many of you have both like I do.  I find that my sugars are making my hypo almost daily, when before it was only about weekly.  I monitor them all the time so that there is history as to my when I'm low, even though I pretty much know based on how I feel.

But again, I'm new to this section of the state and have no Doc here and am feeling lost.  Feeling alone again, which is not helping me.

I've used them all what did you want to know about them? I'm currently using cymbalta, stopped the lyrica because of weight gain (which is common with it). I use morphine 2x daily and oxycodone for breakthru pain. Cymbalta helps but only true pain relief is with narcotics for me. Feel free to ask any questions you have this is a great group of very knowledgeable people.

I had it a few times, it would come for awhile (not due to periods) and I wasn't worried at first because it went away.  Then it came back, so I had a mammogram just to make sure.  So it has to be from the fibro.

Topic: RE: Need to hear long term success...
Hi there, please dont second quess yourself...I am 10 years out and I am doing great. I have kept the weight off  for the most part. I have gained about 20 pounds in this last year and half. I am dont feeled overwelmed with this because I will always remember weight ing 260 pounds with alot of weight problems. I have to be so thankful for the RNY. I weigh about 160 right now. I do plan on seeing a dietician on wednesday but I feel that all I need is to be redirected and like I said  it has been coming on for a couple of years not all at once. For the most part I have kept it off and I feel great. You will do fine. The one thing I would caution you with is making sure you stay on your supplements I did have problems with that but again I get back on track pretty quiclkly.
