I too have Fibro. I had an RnY on 12/6/12 and after a couple of hellish months, the pain is much less than it was and I have more energy than I've had in years. I've lost almost 90lbs from my heaviest weight and can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel. I do have flares and this week has been pretty bad but I've only taken pain meds (Vicodin) once. I can't take NSAIDs so push through most of the time. I don't eat sugar and keep carbs as low as possible. I work out at the gym 3 - 4 times a week and work with a personal trainer that has worked with both WLS and Fibro patients. I feel the change in diet and increase in exercise has contributed to my reduction in flares, pain and exhaustion. Just my two cents worth.

Thank you so much. I have been working on making "friends" with Fibro. It is so odd and has no rhyme nor reason to it. I have days of feeling almost 100% then days of wanting to sleep all day and everything hurts. Thank you for you help!
Hi,
I'm new here and pre-op with fibro. They thought I may have Lupus or RA but at the moment, my tests are all good. So for now, just the fibro (but can't rule out the others down the road). I haven't heard/read anything about not running. That said, I'm not able to at my current weight/pain level. Once I get my VSG, I hope I will be able to work myself up to some running, because I enjoy it. Now I'm primarily doing elliptical and swimming. Swimming really gives me a workout without the exhausted feeling after. I'm tired, but I can still function. So I'm hoping that getting the weight off will help me be more active without paying for it as much.
It is thought that fibro can be triggered by trauma or severe stress so having surgery could in theory cause a fibro trigger but it would have shown up much closer to when you had your surgery. I've had fibro since in my teens but it has gotten worse since my band but I'm also in my 60's so it could also be the dreaded old age for me. Some folks have indeed gotten relief by removing their bands but others do not. Fibro is such an odd disease and is affected by so very many things that it is almost impossible to tag a cause.
Once you have it bout all you can do is treat the symptoms and learn how to be "friends" with it. The more you try to fight it the harder it is to deal with. There are several drugs available to treat the pain, lyrica, cymbalta and savella, also some folks get relief with neurontin also. I take cymbalta and neurontin and they seem to help so far and sometimes you have to change meds as your body adjusts to them. If you have any specific questions or concerns feel free to ask, I usually drop by at leaast once a day to check the forum.

HELP. I am at a loss. Band placed 3 years ago. This past year I have all over muscle pain and many symptoms thought to be Lupus and first, now probably Fibro. I want this band out! Wondering if anyone else has insight? Wondering if they are related.
I take 300 mg 3x a day and don't really have a problem with sleepiness. On the other hand I think I just have a strong tolerance because I also use a fentanyl patch and oxycodone as needed for break thru pain. I had a friend that used huge doses of neurontin for pain and I didn't notice her being sleepy but then everyone is different. Maybe a slow buildup would work rather than just a big up all at once. I hope you get relief from one of them anyway!
Thank you for your reply. I have a call in to my pcp to see if I can up my neurontin. Just worried it might make me tired during the day if I take too much a night. Do you have a problem with that?
Well I'm no help with the mobic as I've never heard of it but I do know you can take some huge doses of neurontin without any problems. It might be worth asking to up that and see if it helps while considering the mobic.
I'm just curious to know how Mobic works for those with Fibro? Currently I'm on 120 mg of Cymbalta and 1200 mg of Neurontin. But I'm starting to hurt severely almost every day once again. I also think may be also causing me to extremely fatigued once again. It seems like once a find a combination of meds to work for me they only work for 6-12 months. I also have rheumatoid arthritis. I've read that Mobic is good for both conditions and would like to hear from someone who has taken it or is currently taking it.
I have fibro and tattoos. For me it just depended on the spot I got them. My side was the worse. Shoulder and ankle no problem. wrist hurt a little. lower back pretty painful, but not as bad as side. Thigh did not hurt to much either. Let me know how it goes for you. I am getting a new one soon
