Topic: RE: Poll: What meds have helped you the most?
Hi I also have herniated discks and back problems and am being given nucynta 75 mg and embeda extended release. I am coming off percoset and oxycodone and they worked well but as you say to avoid liver problems my doc is changing me to these. I have 2 questions one is were you on percoset or oxycodone if so did the switch help are these really better. And secondly how well does the extened release embeda gets absorbed in your system I had a Roux N Y. And am interested in knowing if the extended release releases as its suppose to or is absorbed quicker or slower. I hope you can help with these questions.

I use Lyrica .. But only went needed.
Sadly my ODSP does not cover it so my doctor was kind enough to give me a bunch of boxes from her samples.
I find it doesn't work on all the pain but if you scale it from like a 1 to 10 pain wise if I am at a pain level of 8 it will take it down to like a 5-6.

I have had this, but it wasn't due to my fibro per se. It was from a sensitivity to caffeine and chocolate. The doctor told me to eliminate caffeine and watch the chocolate and within 2 weeks the pain was completely gone. Now, getting off caffeine caused me a horrible headache for 2 weeks but after that I was fine.
Another time I got this was from a drug reaction. I took zantac and it happened and one other drug I can't remember the name of. My brother had the same problem. Sometimes, these side effects aren't even recorded on the label.
Hope you get to the bottom of it.

I have the twitching and jerking also. I was diagnosed with Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. They can find out if you have it by doing a sleep study. I also have muscle jerks when i am awake at times. Sometimes my stomach muscles contract. That makes my whole body jerk. There are medications that can be used to treat this illness. I take gabapentin. It is a medicine that is similar to Lyrica.
I was diagnosed with teneditis and brusasitis. I never had much faith in that diagnosis. I have weird pains which are over my elbow joints and down my legs and arms. I have just decided not to try to find out why. I have been to differnt specialist to try to figure it out. They didn't give me any helpful information.
Good luck to you. I hope that you find an answer and relief.

Topic: RE: Problem with pain med mal-absorption?
Wow Kristy, you story sounds like ME!!
I still think the surgery is worth all the extra hassels we have to go through, my days spent at the infusion center getting iron injections, etc. I am thankful I got my surgery and I know if I just keep being pesky enough I will get the pain meds to the level I need them at. I appreciate you sharing your story.

Hi,
I had the RNY done almost 5 yrs ago and got Fibro about 2 yrs ago. I have had to fight to the end to get what I wanted to make me comfy. Well, I found the comfort in Fentanyl patches 25 mcg + Norco 1-4x a day for breakthru. Then they bumped up my patch to 50 mcg and had me take the Norco 1-4 a day but lowered the quantity. She said since they bumped up the patch they wanted to decrease the amount of breakthru meds. I was doing great, pain level 1-2. Then...cold weather came. I told them I was taking more than the lowered amount but not exceeding my 60 tablets. It gets confusing, but they ended up having me taking my Norco 1-2 x a day. (not what I asked for) I keep the patch on by putting it on my chest just beside the breast bone and it stays on very well. They want to always bump up the patch and lower the pills. I told them I want to be able to control the amount of pills I take, if I need half or a whole one I can take it. The patch if it is too much, it is too much. I also use my Ativan like that too. If I only need 1/4, I use a 1/4 if I need a half or whole, I use it. So I can control how I feel with the pills. If you got a strong patch though it would work better. I tried to tell them I had wls and when they take 1 vitamin I need 2. that is how I argue my demand for more, not for habit, but for the sake of not absorbing all of it. I will write more later. Hope this at least helps a little. Kristy
