I was thinking the same thing. I've lost all this weight and I have MORE pain????  There is pool therapy at my physical therapist's clinic, but I just can't bring my self to put on a swim suit in public.  I still have a lot of weight to lose - maybe in another 6 months I will get up the nerve.
I'm starting chair exercises today.  I'm sitting in front of the computer with an electric heater on my toes doing it.  I know it's not much, but it is something and hopefully it won't hurt my back.  I think the mild stretching actually helps.

Topic: RE: Crossing Over to Transfer Addictions...VERY BAD TIME OF THE YEAR!
Just keep in mind, many people develop addictions after surgery becase of the nervous system damage done from long term malnutrition and not because of addiction transfer.

If you were an addict before, you will most likely still be an addict after.

But of you weren't, don't buy the propaganda to throw you off the track.  Read up on the severe nervous system issues from malnutrition even when you take your vitamins.

I tis real.

For those of you who are battling addictions, I feel your pain!  But for those who have never had a compulsion, addiction and don't relate to the addictive nature, you don't have to accept that all addictions are the same.  They aren't.  Some are mental. Some genetic.  Some just people who go through a bad period with their central nervous ystem breaking down because of malnutrition of the entire B famly and many other micronutrients and minerals.

I can promise you that if you experience your very first nervous system breakdown, and you have never liked alcohol or drugs because you don't have that urge, if you take a drug or drink alcohol as a quick fix to ease thsi new sensation you have never felt, you can develop some bad habits that can lead to addiction.  But I recommend you go to the doctor first.  Read up on the issues that are related to malnutrition post op years out, and don't accept that you have something wrong with you genetically or emotionally if you were fine before and happy before, you need to listen to your body.  Your insurance company doesn't want to test you for the broad range of malnutriton issues post op annually because it will cost same as surgery and then the medical industry that is making money on our wanting to lose weight has incentive to keep quiet and not tell the WHOLE risk picture becaue you will be far down the road post op before you put the two together.  So dont' just believe everything you are told, and for people that are suffering form true addiction issues, thanks for being so welcoming to people who used food as a compulsion, and develop addictions to cope with nervous system meltdown after, but PLEASE don't try to convince everyone they are an addict and are transferring their addictions if you don't know it.

You aren't helping them and delayed treatment will lead to an early death.  And for those of you who are drinking alcohol, one of the most important nutrients you need is B1 Thiamin and alcohol kills it.  And if you go long enough, you will be certifiably insane!  So think about that if you reach for alcohol to stop a panic disorder.  Don't use alcohol.  Go to a psychiatrist.

My surgeon, upon learning of the many problems my surgery had led to from years of mallnutrition told me I would never get what I needed no matter how well I was eating, and I needed to have a pain management specialist, endocrinologist, psychiatrist, and psychologist for the rest of my life.  And suspected some pretty bad brain damage and recommended an fMRI but only thorugh his dietician since he they don't want to have their hands on anything that might look like they are admitting any relation to the nervous system breakdown to the long years of not getting enough of many nutritents.

I still have 40 pounds to go and was eating well and exercising. It really flung me into a funk when my PM doc told me that exercise was aggravating it.
He told me water therapy/ aerobics would be best.
I have no pool, freezing temps, and no money for the gym.

I now have pain PLUS fear of gaining my weight back.

Congrats on your 100 pound loss! Most of my pain is in the L4 L5 plus C5 vertebrae due to pinched nerves. I have been told it could be due to losing so much weight so fast......great, I lost weight to help with FM and now I've done more damage!

This forum is a great relief. Just having gals to talk to! ((Hugs))

The cold is really getting to me for the first time in my life.  With FM making my arms from the arm pit to fingertips miserably painful, and the 100 lb weight loss, not to mention a narrowing on L4 & L5 spine, and a twisted vertebrae, my pain is so bad right now.  Had to stop exercising and I think the physical therapy was making matters worse so I quit that.   I feel for you and I hope you find some relief.

First of all I'm so sorry you are having such a difficult time. Sounds like you need to find a rheumatologist or pain mangement clinic because most regular docs have little experience in dealing with fibro. Some don't even believe it exists! I can understand not wanting any more surguries, I've had 1-3 surgeries a year for the last 6 years and it does get old! I can tell you stress causes even more pain so do try to relax as much as you can. There are a multitude of pain meds out there which is why a pain clinic is much more helpful, so I would suggest you seek one out and see if they can't give you some help.

Topic: Thought It Would Go Away
August 15 2007 I had RNY and thought if just the weight would come off the fibro would go away. But no. I'm 5 foot tall and 120lbs and it is still there. In November I was in the hospital for 5 days and stomach pain tests showed nothing. What did happen is when they gave me narcotics the pain in my stomach made me double up over. No pain medication works.  I'm set up for a colonoscopy on Monday and the day before scares me to death because I'm afraid the bloating from the cleaning out I have to do will cause so much pain that I'll just pass out.  I still have some right side pain, pain in my ankle, I jerk and have electricity coming out of my fingers. I'm on 200 mg of lyrica and I think it is working but my stomach is still bloating and my belly button hurts.  I don't want to have surgery any more. I've been opened five times for different things and I'm afraid no pain meds will work and I will be screaming again. I'm in Western Fl and can't find a good fibro doctor, can't sleep and know that tomorrow when I see the doctor he will want me off the lyrica, actually this guy wants to go naturally and dosen't believe in pain medication.  I'm a mess today. I need to take  it one day at a time but don't know what to do. Thats me Kathleen
