Topic: Anyone out there have had an RNY, and a hysterectomy and had problem with HRT malabsorption?
I had my RNY nearly 9 years ago, with two revisions since (let's not even go there); subsequently I had a complete hysterectomy about 14 months ago and a month later went on Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). Was wondering if anyone has had any malabsorptive issues with Premarin post gastric bypass? And if yes, how did you know? Did you get blood work done and what bloodwork?????

Thanks,
Snedly

Topic: RE: Fibro in Columbus ohio

My heart goes out to you and your husband.  Living with constant pain is something no one can imagine. My 17 yr. old daughter was suffered for years with chronic pain and fatigue.  We had been to every doctor you can imagine and tried every traditional medical treatment. We were given at least 5 different diagnosis. My once active, athletic, honor student couldn't even get off the couch! She was so heavily medicated that she could not even complete a sentence or a thought.  She missed 70 days of school her jr. year in high school.

One evening I had to take her to the ER because the pain was intolerable. I was desperate to help my daughter.

I went to the internet and typed in fibro pain.  After hours of reading blogs, etc. on the subject I kept seeing this treatment mentioned that I had never heard of nor had any of our drs. recommended.  It is called Calmare Therapy.  Long story short we found a place in Rutherford NJ that had the Calmare Therapy and went for 10 treatments.  It was like a miracle! She has been pain free now for over 1 yr.  Dr. Cooney literally gave my daughter her life back.  If you want to find out more about it just go to calmarette.com.  It will give you locations and all the info you need.

I cannot recommend it highly enough.  We have sent 3 others to a Calmare Therapy treatment center and all of them were helped.  PLEASE take a minute to look into it and give it a try.  We too had exhausted our options with traditional medical treatment.  Good luck.

I hear ya on the HOT summers! They kill me as much as e cold winters do. If the weather could stay around the mid 70's with low humidity, I would feel like I'm in heaven!

I stop by everyday as well, glad to know that you're around if I ever need you!

Hi there good to see another visitor. I pop in everyday just to see if anyone else has come by with questions, we aren't a real busy board. Like I say tho I'm almost always around. You have a great summer too, it has to be better than the cold winters as long as it doesn't get TOO hot!

There are other meds available.  for a variety or reasons I no longer take lyrica or cymbalta.  I take neurontin and flexeril - both with great success and minimal side effects.  When my sleep is very bad, I also use valarian tea (a mild, all natural sedative).  I also take b complex and manganese on a regular basis to help maintian proper biorhythms which helps reduce severity of symptoms and frequency of flare ups

Topic: RE: New here. Does WLS help with fibro pain?

I am having rny tomorrow and spoke about my fibro and migraines at length with the surgeon before deciding on this surgery over the other options.  He was very clear that nsaids will be off the agenda for me, and that while the reduced wt will lead to more activity and hopefully less symptoms and flare ups, there are no guarantees.  I called my rheumatologist and neuro and both said they will prescribe meds for me (that are safe) and even prescribe them in liquid (or suspension) form so I have no (pr less) problems if I need them in the beginning.  Talk with the docs, especially before the surgery, so that if a flare arises you are well equipped.

best of luck

I had gastric sleeve in Sept 2011 and since I have gotten down to 175 lbs but my pain levels are sky high now.  I was not diagnosed before surgery I didnt get diagnosed until Nov 2012 but the symptoms have always been there since I was younger. My doctors always said loose the weight and you wont be in pain but that has not been the case for me. I am not on any meds at this point because I am pregnant and it has been absolute hell for the past 14 weeks.  I don't know if its the fibro or the pregnancy but I am super sensitive to ALL chemicals and I can no longer eat anything that has anything artificial in it.  I have been sicker than ever these last few weeks and my body hurts so bad but I am learning that aroma therapy helps me a lot.  Personally I wouldnt count on the weight loss to relieve the pain but it does make it easier to move around and get exercise which for me is a huge help but its hard to get motivated some days.

My heaviest was 450 lbs which a truck scale told me so in 2007 I decided I had to change. I lost about 125 lbs over the next year but in 2009 I got pregnant with my first child and took the best care of myself I knew how which lead to me losing weight and getting down to 280.  But that was short lived and with in about 4 months I was back to 325 and pregnant again. I lost again but again was quickly gaining when I asked for help from my doctor.  I met my bariatric surgeon for a consult on June 26 2011 and on September 13 2011 I had gastric sleeve.  Since then I have lost 134 lbs and had another child.  Currently I eat "Clean" and do not take any type of medication or vitamin.  My body is healthy and strong, I get all the vitamins and calcium I need from my diet and my doctors are happy with my success and lifestyle changes and so am I.  My goal was always to be healthy so I wanted a healthy weight based on BMI.  My goal weight was 164lbs.  I surpassed that and got to 150lbs but was too skinny and now am comfortable around 160.

My Pain Management actually took me off Lyrica that I had been on after years and had hit a plateau post op of my wls by 8 years after gaining from steroids, and they put me on Topamax which is a hunger depressent and my weight went dropping off quickly. So there are quite a bit of things that you can find to help you with the Fibro, it is not the only thing on the market.  It works pretty good with the Fibro, but I find the supplements and exercise are better with Fibro than narcotics since my weight loss, I just feel better all around :)

Good luck with getting the right mix for yourself.  I have been there before.  Just let your doctor know what is working and what is not.  I was unable to take Neuroratin after awhile due to it feeling like someone flicking fingers on my brain.  But it depends on the person I believe.  I am just one who can't take it.  So it may work for you.
