I use cymbalta and it has worked well for me for quite a few years. You might read the previous post for more info on that. Also for back pain I finally tried a spinal stimulator that was a God send. Not only did it knock the pain down it did it permanently after awhile, I haven't used it in over a year. There are also lyrica and savella for fibro however most say the lyrica causes weight gain, I know it did for me too. Sometimes other drugs for depression will also help, it is very individual what works for each person. Most people say heat works well to relieve pain too. Another drug that I take for nerve pain is neurontin and it has almost no side effects and can be taken in huge doses if needed. So there are many options and your best bet is getting with a pain management specialist. Being active is one of the best things you can do, it is just very difficult when you hurt so badly. I wish you the best!
If you had your surgery that long ago you should be able to take the capsule without opening it. I have a band but spend alot of time on the sleeve forum hoping to get one if I can ever get this stupid band out. It would would be less hard on your tummy if you leave it in the capsule. There shouldn't be a problem with delayed release since your stomach is just smaller, it doesn't malabsorb. That is supposed to be one of the benefits of the the sleeve over the bypass, that meds work pretty much the same as a normal tummy.
I use cymbalta and it seems to help but I also use a narcotic pain patch for arthritis pain. I used the cymbalta before I had the patch tho and it helped alot. There is also a newer drug called savella that has helped many. It sometimes takes alot of trial and error to find the right treatment or combination of treatments. I would suggest you also search the internet for information because there is a great deal to learn about the disease and of course you are welcome here too, but we don't get alot of action here as you can see. If I can be of any further help feel free to ask away and I'll do my best to help, I've had it for over 40 yrs so am a bit of a self proclaimed professional.

I'm at about 4 months post-op VSG and really struggling with pain lately. I have autoimmune liver disease that is in the same family as fibro. I also have severe lower back pain and osteoporosis. I've already reached the halfway point on my weight loss journey, but I was expecting my pain to be a lot less at this point, when in fact it's increased a lot. I understand why. i'm more active with exercise. I've lost weight and my muscles are slack and not as supportive. I need to get in a position where i can work out more, incorporate some strength training but finding it impossible due to the pain i feel after activity in my liver area, joints, and back.
I'm meeting with my doctor in 2 weeks and intend to ask for some help with pain management, but he's less than knowledgeable with WLS so some info from you pain-conscience fibro people would be of great help.
Can you recommend a stomach safe pain medication to use on a regular basis? I have pain after an exercise session and accumulate pain throughout the day to the point where i cant sleep at night ... so i would probably need to take 1-2 pills a day. I could manage to take with a small snack or tons of water if that's recommended. I jsut want something that isnt going to eat away at my stomach lining with prolonged use.
thanks in advance
Hey all! had Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy back in November and have lost most of my excess weight. Still have 20-22 lbs to go. I believe I have had Fibro my whole life...but the stress of the surgery on my body has made it worse.
So my question is what do yall do for your FM? I plan on being as active as I can be (yoga, biking, hiking) as well as my doctor has me on Cymbalta. I will know in 2-6 weeks if this medicine therapy will work. Narcotics do not work for my FM pain. Besides I don't want to take any medicine for pain if I don't have to. Id like to be as natural as possible.
My only issue is that since Cymbalta only comes in delayed release - I have to take it out of capsule with applesauce. This is hard on my new tummy (burns) and may not be as effective. I did try to eat 2oz of meat (chicken) beforehand to keep the meds in my tummy longer).
Any suggestions as to how I can get the best bang for my buck with my new VSG tummy and the delayed release capsule?
BTW please pray for me this Cymbalta works. My pain and fatigue have been terrible lately. Thought I would feel better after losing all this weight...but now I have this to deal with! ugh!
Hi,
I just found this web site today & joined. I have fibromyalgia among many other things. The fatigue and pain are the worst. I have some days that are better than others. I wish I could get more done daily. But I seem to need to spend so much time in bed resting/sleeping. It's frustrating. I am on a good multi vitamin pill and I keep looking for solutions for the fatigue. Ivypie44
