I'm pretty sure I have Fibromyalgia and wanted to know is there a test they can do to find out because the Dr said there is no test.
How did your surgery go ? Hope you are doing well.
Lyrica is an option. I had RNY and have been taking Gabapentin which is a sister to Lyrica. I have little pain because of these meds.
Hello, Wow, I haven't been on OH much the last couple of years. Had my DS in May '09. Gained a few pounds over the last 3 months all of a sudden. Have to get back to basics, mostly protein and water. No problem with water. But I had no idea there was a fibromyalgia forum. I was diagnosed with fibro in June '12. Have had symptoms for just about 20 years. Chalked it up to the 2 herniated discs I had in '95 before a severe viral infection also that same year. Pains all over at different times. I have been plagued with shin splints a lot too. I don't know why is that. Have lots of pains in my legs from hips down at different times. Arm pains come and go. Left hand warmth and pain. Yes, it is all over. And the fatigue horrible. But, listen to this I just started a new med call Nuvigil. I do have sleep apnea. I asked my pulmonologist about this drug and he prescribed it. The insurance company needed to get the information from my c-pap machine. They downloaded the disc for information. And I was approved. It is a mild upper, and it does keep me going. Yesterday I did not need a nap. Usually I took at least 2 naps a day. Had a very mild left eye pain and temple pain on left side only. No other horrible side effects. I told my boyfriend when I get back from Michigan visiting my ill mother, that maybe I will do some housework. I will have more energy. Now just concentrating on what to pack and get my medical reports typed up. I also take Tramadol and it does help me 100 mg. 3 times a day. I am on gabapentin for nerve issues 900 mg. 4 times a day and that helps. I am also on Effexor and have been told that is good for fibromyalgia issues. Been on those 3 drugs for over 10 years. Who knew I was being treated for fibro, but I didn't know that. Ha ha. Oh that pain in your groin could be what is called valvodynia. That is one symptom of fibro. Google fibromyalgia if you haven't yet and read all the symptoms. How is your house? Found out a lot of us fibromites have messy houses. Just not enough energy to clean. Motivation thingy turned off in the brain from fibro. I kid you not. Be well.

Forgot about this forum when everything changed here but re-found it and will check in often, hopefully daily. So if you need anything I'll do my best to help you out!
Fibromyalgia and Lupus (SLE) were exactly the reasons I did *not* have a RNY!
My surgery is the Duodenal Switch, and not only did I lose over 200 pounds, the medicines that would not work for me at my highest weight of 405 began to work!
I take a number of meds, including Lyrica, and did not experience any weight gain whatsoever!
I can still take NSAIDS if need be, because I still have a real, although smaller, stomach.
That said, NSAIDS can cause stomach bleeds in anyone, WLS or not.
My Rx meds didn't even have to be tweaked or changed to liquids..they still work fine!

After nearly losing my mind....
I've got a surgery date!!!!
My plastics will take place December 27th at 10:00 AM at St. Vicnent's Hospital, Indianapolis!
I got a call from the assistant today, who said the insurance company was called about the change of location, and told that both hospitals are part of the same corporation, just a different geographical location (about 10 miles worth!). The assistant told me that the insurance company said the change of location would not be a problem, and they will send me a new approval letter indicating the different hospital.
I've had many questions asking how I got the insurance company to approve the plastics. The skin has become a medical issue in and of itself, and I have been plagued by several bouts of cellulitis. According to something I read, Severe Morbid Obesity is one risk factor for cellulitis.I never had it when I was SMO. However, I am no longer obese, just overweight, according to the charts. Once the excess skin and fat deposits come off, I will be closer to chart weight.
I have just a little time to get myself together for the surgery, as the hospital is two hours away.
I'm a little concerned about being held in hospital for only 24 hours after the surgery, but I will discuss that with the doctor.
Big ups to G-d for making it all possible!
I take Cymbalta for fibromyalgia. I have only had one flare up in 2 years. It has been a miracle drug for me.
