I have Fibro/CFS . You need to keep protein drinks and bars everywhere. In you car, purse, whatever it takes. The protein will give you some energy and calories. You can't continue without it. Someone will be taking care of you. You HAVE to do this. It's easy to do thus. Get you a little cooler and don't ever be without your protein drinks! I am 13 yrs out. I have kept my weight off. I try to walk 3 mikes daily but some days I just can't. And that's ok. I wish you well, please get a grip on this.

I am 13 yrs out. I have begun having a lot of abdominal distention. Even little bites of food or water make me swell. I am unable to tolerate even minute amts of salt. Anyone else have this?

I'm so sorry that you are going thru such a difficult time, sometimes life is just plain hard! I hope you are getting treatment and medication for your depression and PTSD, they can be very helpful.

As for motivation if I had a really good answer I'd be a zillionaire! However what I do is get super organized about it and set a particular time to do it. I also get a notebook set up with what ever I'm doing, if I'm riding my stationary bike I keep track of minutes or miles. When I'm doing strength training I keep track of how many reps and sets I'm doing and how much weight I'm using. For me if I don't get very disciplined about it I just tend to find excuses not to do it. Remember that getting exercise also helps with the depression by releasing endorphins. I wish you the best and just remember one step at a time and you'll end up somewhere new and probably even better. Good luck to you!

I'm a full time student, my mom just died, and I'm dealing with PTSD and chronic depression. My solution is to hide and sleep thru it, or eat my way thru it.

I can barely move some days, how do I get the motivation to exercise?

I hope you are feeling better soon, did your insurance pay for it ? I hope I can get something done one of these days if Medicare and Medicaid pay for it. Do you know if they pay for a lower body lift ? I have lost 40 lbs so far in 10 weeks. I still have problems swallowing big pills even if I cut them in two they still get stuck in my throat so I have some chewables, I wi**** would get better.  Take care.

Hi browneyes65 !

Sorry I took so long to get back to you!

Surgery went well, but the healing was a b---h!!!

One of the incisions partly dehisced (came apart) and took a long time to heal.  It has finally closed, so now, it's on to Phase Two of thigh skin reduction.

I was supposed to have the surgery all done at once, but once I got to the OR, the surgeon saw that was gong to be too much skin to lose all at one tiome, so he decided to stage the surgeries.  Stage One took care of the inner thigh and inner knee area.

Topic: RE: TESTS

It took five years for me to get a a definitive Fibromyalgia diagnosis.  It was complicated, because I also have Lupus.

From About.com:

http://arthritis.about.com/od/arthqa/f/fmsdiagnosis.htm

More Illustrations/Images Showing Locations Of The Tender Points Of Fibromyalgia:

There is no lab test to diagnose fibromyalgia. Doctors manually check tender points on the body during an examination.

Tender points are specific places on the body (18 specific points at 9 bilateral locations) that are exceptionally sensitive to the touch in people with fibromyalgia upon examination by a doctor.

The nine bilateral (both sides) muscle locations are:

  • Low Cervical Region: (front neck area) at anterior aspect of the interspaces between the transverse processes of C5-C7.
  • Second Rib: (front chest area) at second costochondral junctions.
  • Occiput: (back of the neck) at suboccipital muscle insertions.
  • Trapezius Muscle: (back shoulder area) at midpoint of the upper border.
  • Supraspinatus Muscle: (shoulder blade area) above the medial border of the scapular spine.
  • Lateral Epicondyle: (elbow area) 2 cm distal to the lateral epicondyle.
  • Gluteal: (rear end) at upper outer quadrant of the buttocks.
  • Greater Trochanter: (rear hip) posterior to the greater trochanteric prominence.
  • Knee: (knee area) at the medial fat pad proximal to the joint line.

Also Known As: tenderpoints, tender spots, trigger points (note: this is an incorrect term since referred pain differentiates trigger points from tender points) See: Trigger Points vs. Tender Points, from AAFP.org

It is a very long process, but you have to be very assertive in making sure the doctors don't give you the brush off.  Many Fibro patients get labeled as hypochondriacs, and sent  to a mental health care provider for treatment.

Doctors are better about treating fibromyalgia patients now, but when I was trying to get answers (1993 -1998), doctors were quick to tell you that your symptoms were "all in your head".  Now, they finally recognize Fibro as a real illness.

There is no specific test to diagnosis it so it it more a process of elimination and usually takes time. The are some pressure points they can check but that alone doesn't make for a diagnosis, just keep at it and hopefully some one can give you a diagnosis eventually. Good luck!
