What if you have something else besides Fibromyalgia?

I've been doing some research on this subject because I've been having severe body pain that is progressive since 2007.  I had my RNY in 2001.  I've had all kinds of tests from all kinds of doctors and no one can find out what is wrong.
Yesterday I went to a rheumatlogist.  He said that he didn't think I had FM but that he would do some tests and call me back in two weeks for a follow up appointment.  He took eleven vials of blood!
I was reading someone's reply on here somewhere on a post (Tamara) and she said that she found out that her pain was caused by a SEVERE deficiency in B-12 and iron.  I knew that caused neuropathy but I thought it was just in the hands and feet.  I'm finding out that it can be all over a person's body!

So my thought is this:

What if most of the people on this forum have this deficiency and not FM?  I'd like to get some replies from those *****ad this and tell us if you kept up with your vitamins like you should and if you think this could be your problem instead of FM.

The sad thing is that even if we got our levels up to standard, the nerve damage is more than likely permanent, which means we have to be on pain meds forever.  *sigh*

Well, I guess I have FM and osteoarthritis as per doctor's diagnosis as my B-12 since RnY over 4 years ago is absolutely in the "great" range ( of course I supplement 1000mcgs 3 xs a week) and altough my iron has been dropping over the last 3 years it was only just below the low normal...I have been supplementing since last November with 300mg ( 100mg elemental iron) daily or every second day and am back up in the normal range...I have also made sure I eat red meat at l least once a week as had stopped eating beef and with small RnY pouch, cannot absorb iron from vegetable sources as not enough stomach lining surface  and intrinsic factor available anymore... So my pains and aches are not from those deficiencies...

Edited to add: I kept up and never slacked with my vits and other supplementation since my RnY...

If you think you have iron deficiency, maybe look at this cross post:

While it might contribute to some cases I think the vast majority are actually fibro. I went to a rheumatotolist from Oregon Health Sciences University (one of the leading researchers of fibro and chronic fatigue). They also took buckets of my blood and said it all looked great not even any in the iffy zone so if it was a B12 deficiency they would have noticed. I do think alot of docs just give up and call what ever they can't figure out fibro, which is a real discredit to docs like I had. Fibro doesn't have anything that will show up in blood work so they really have to go by symptoms, process of elimination and even the trigger points test isn't fool proof. I also have neuropathy but again no vitamin deficiencies, mine seems to be genetic because my mom and gramma had it too. My mom was diabetic but not my gramma, so go figure! I know I'll be on pain meds the rest of my life anyway because of the neuropathy and I have horrible arthritis affecting my back mostly. I'm on a fentenyl patch and that is working better than the morphine I was on, it made me so sleepy and the patch doesn't. I think we are all different yet all have pain, the best we can do is just support each other and take it day by day and some things just don't have an answer.

In January 2001, I was in a head-on automobile accident . Ever since then, I have had excruciating pain all over my whole body that has gotten worse every year.
Right after the accident, I let a family member talk me into seeing a chiropractor. That was a big mistake, he made me hurt worse. $5,500.00 and 8 months later, I finally lied to him and told him that I was better just so he would release me from his care.
Since then, I have been to doctor after doctor, specialist after specialist and test after test....Nothing....They couldn't find anything......So, they starting telling me that I have fibromyalgia.  I thought, finally, I have a diagnosis...a name for what I have. Unfortunately, nothing they did and nothing they prescribed helped.
Fast forward to now....I was in SO much pain...I could barely walk. I couldn't sleep, I had no life. My husband's friend noticed how miserable I was all the time, and he recommended that I go see this chiropractor that he had been seeing. I'm sure you already know what I was thinking about that. Since he referred me, the first visit that included xrays and exam would cost $50 instead of $300. I thought, ok, I have spent thousands out of pocket over the years; what is $50.
I kid you not, I limped into this man's office, talked to him and sat there and cried like a baby. He asked me if I would allow him to help me, and I said yes.
My xray showed that I have scoliosis, a broken tailbone, 2 bone spurs, arthritis, twisted hips, and degenerative disc disease.
This chiropractor uses the Gonstead method. Google it, If you've never heard of it. He uses a meter that detects heat/inflammation in the spine. This helps him know where you need adjusted. He xrays you every 10 visits, so you can see your progress/changes. This also helps him determine where and if you need adjusted. The chiropractor I saw before xrayed me one time when I started seeing him and that was it. He just layed you down and started cracking everything.
This chiropractor has changed my life. That very day, that very visit, after just one adjustment, I walked out of his office pain free and still crying, (but tears of joy). I no longer hurt all over. Don't get me wrong, I still have days when I have some discomfort in my lower back, especially if I am very active.
The first week of treatment , I slept so hard that I had a hard time waking up. No sleep aid....nothing! I  haven't slept like that in years. I couldn't believe it....I'm still having a hard time believing it.
After all these years..... antidepressants, pain meds, doctor after doctor telling me that it was all in my head, wanting to give me injections, wanting to do surgery, and just days before I saw the chiropractor, I had an orthopaedic doctor tell me that it was just something that I was going to have to live with.
I am still finding it all hard to believe. I really thought the rest of my life (or lack of) was going to be misery and pain. I know everybody is different, but I'm telling you as living proof, if you find the right one, maybe a chiropractor can change your life, too.

I have both lupus (SLE) and fibromyalgia.  I know for a fact it's not my supplements, because I am neither deficient in iron or B12.

My DS, however, has made fibro flares less comnon and less severe, thanks to the medicines that are effective now that I've lost 245 pounds.  I am in mild pain everyday, but it's manageable now.

Edited to add:

As for SLE, I had a major flare 9 months ago.  Major = cannot move, eat, barely drink, or sleep, and would welcome a few days worth of anethesia - I'm poking fun now, but in the moment, it is pure HELL!  That's when I get the prednisone and heavy duty pain meds  now, not everyday, like before.

HW 405/SW 397/CW 138/GW 160  Do the research!  Check the stats!
The DS is *THE* solution to Severe Morbid Obesity!
