Could it have caused it?
I had plastic surgery in 1999. Tummy Tuck and Inner Thigh Lift. Thinking back, I remember asking my surgeon about pain that would radiate down the back of my hamstrings. He said that it was the nerves that had been cut during surgery starting to reconnect or something. Well, long story short, I started having pain (all over my body) early January of 2000. The doctors that I have seen for the Fibromyalgia said that it is caused by stress or trauma to the body. Could the plastic surgery be the cause?
Thanks,

I have recently returned this forum after being away from it for several years, actually I've been hanging out at the fibro forums, but haven't come across too many people that have had both WLS and now fibro. I had many surgeries (gallbladder, 4 c-sections, WLS, and anchor tummy tuck) and have been wondering if these traumas could of been what caused the fibro. I am reading quite a bit on here and believing that their is a correlation. I see a rhemy in January but am pretty convinced that is what I have. Been fighting it for years, but the pain has just continuously gotten worse and can't deny it any longer. If you get any further info about this I would appreciate it as well and I will mention this to my dr. when I go, thanks for the input.....Jennifer
I was reading The Fibromyalgia Advocate and it definitely said you can suffer from mild symptoms for years (like me) and that a really stressful event physically or emotionally can cause it to become fully onset (like me). I had it under control for years until within 6 months I had MRSA, sinus surgery, emergency surgery for ruptured ulcer, sepsis in the liver and spleen after that, causing me to be in the hospital 11 days on mega-antibiotics. I have never been the same since. It's fully onset for sure. My pharmacist recently gave me info that you MUST be on these meds to control it:
The goal of using medication is to improve sleep and pain tolerance. Patients should receive drug treatments along with exercise, patient education, and behavioral therapies.
Duloxetine (Cymbalta), pregabalin (Lyrica), and milnacipran (Savella) are medications that are approved specifically for treating fibromyalgia.
However, many other drugs are also used to treat the condition, including:
- Anti-seizure drugs (I take Neurontin-miracle drug)
- Other antidepressants (Cymbalta)
- Muscle relaxants (Flexeril - only if needed)
- Pain relievers (Advil, which also helps the absorption of Neurontin)
- Sleeping aids (Klonipin)
