Pain meds after gastric bypass
Hi Everyone, I have a question I was wondering if anyone that takes pain melds find that the pain meds wears off faster then they did before your surgery? I found that i get a lot more brake though pain since the surgery then before .After about 3 hours I'm in more pain. Some days it feels like i have not even taken any pain meds. I had the surgery 7 years ago. My doctor don't believe that gastric bypass makes any difference. I am having to go to pain management. Since the pain med don't seem to help for very long he don't want to treat me for pain. I been taking loratabs 10s 3 times a day for 8 years and he took me off cold turkey. But, Didn't have any withdraws from the loratabs. You would think i would. After all this time. I have other medical conditions other then Fibromyalgia. I don't know what pain management is like and what they do. Someone told me you think your pain away. I will find out soon enough i guess. I just wanted to know if anyone else has experience this also. Please help me with this if you can. thank you, Debra
A pain management clinic is the best place to go! No it isn't just thinking the pain away, they will teach you things besides drugs that you can use but they can also help find the right drugs to treat your fibro. There are several drugs for fibro, lyrica, cymbalta and savella and they can also add others if needed. Most general PCPs don't want the responsibility of prescribing and monitoring narcotics in their patients so now they send you to a pain clinic where they specialize in treating all kinds of pain. I go to one for my fibro and degenerative arthritis in my back. After years on narcotics I recently had a spinal stimulator put in and am completely pain free in my back now. They are up to date on all the newest treatments. They should also understand about bypass malabsorption or if not can confer with your bariatric surgeon to learn that you don't absorb meds like other people. Wish you the best and hope they help with the pain!
I had rny in 10/04. I have migraines and fibro. I take neurontin for the fibro and it is a godsend. For the migraines I go to a pain clinic and take perc 10, or oxycodone, the next step past loratabs. And I agree it does wear off faster. And I build up a tolerance faster than I did before I had the surgery. The neurontin seems to help alot of my migraines too. I also have PMDD, which is PMS from hell. The migraines I get now are hormonal, they are about 10 days before my perios and the first 3 days of my period. So I can take 2 or 3 perc 10's a day for 2 weeks and then stop with no withdrawals. I'd take more, but I have to measure them out so that I don't run out. Good Luck, Melanie
