Cortisone Shot?
Do cortisone shots work for fibro?...i havent been officially diagnosed but ive had a constant pain in my shoulder blade that moves up towards my collar bone...its been there for the last 12 years it started out slowly like a stinging now its like a hot needle and it always starts in the same place in just at the tip of my shoulder blade...then when it finally relaxes my whole neck is sore like the muscles in my neck where twisted up to tight while the pain was digging and stinging at my on my shoulder...ive had xrays ive been to physcial thereapy i go to the chiropractor who gives me a massage therapist and it releives the pain only temporarily but as soon as im at work or i work at home or work out or any other activity it starts to flare...my primary care has so far ingored me but im going to insist for her to get me diagonesed next time i see her...i shouldnt say she has ignored me i think she was more concerned with my vitamin d deficency and my weight loss surgery plus my low thyroid and high blood pressure...so i think that was more her priority...
This doesn't really sound like fibromyalgia to me. Sounds more like an injury, bursitis, tear, something like that. Fibro is more wide spread. Cortisone shots don't really work for fibro, because you would need shots in too many places, and it would cause the muscles to atrophy with prolonged use. Good luck with your doctor! Hope you find some relief.
I agree with Rejoyce doesn't sound like fibro (thank your lucky stars!) sounds more like arthritis or bursitis. I think the best place to start would be a rheumatologist they treat all of the above so they can tell the difference. I truely hope it's arthritis because fibro is body wide and constant. If worse comes to worse you may be able to get a shoulder replacement. Good luck to you!
I agree with the others. Thank your lucky stars that it's probably not Fibro.
I hurt all over. With the weather changing, mine has flared, and the worst of it is in my shoulders, and radiates down my arms and up my neck.
I have had a headache for weeks. When the headache first hit me, I thought I would die. It really was debilitating. It hurt so bad...I cried.
I hurt all over all the time, but when I say I have a flare....I still hurt all over, but it gets really bad in certain parts of my body. I have not had a pain free day in so long, I couldn't tell you when. When mine first started I would have some pain free days, but not anymore.
I sure hope you get this figured out, and I sure hope it's not Fibro. I don't think it is, but I'm not a doctor.
Take Care,
~Amy~
That sounds like my shoulders. I have fibro BUT, I have calcific tendonitis and bursitis in my left shoulder that was found by accident when my rheumatologist was looking for changes consistant with psoriatic arthritis. I would ask about getting it x-rayed. It is VERY painful.
Steroid injections have worked very well for mine, although I'm not sure if we can have them post op...?

Many primary MD's are not the best with treatment of fibromyalgia. I would ask to see a rheumatologist's and they would be more aware of the differentials between polymyalgia, fibromyalgia, tendinitis, bursitis's ect.
Fibromyalgia may not respond to steroids as polymyalgia does as per one of my old primary doctors once told me many years ago.
I started with hot knife like pain going down my leg and into my foot, I am sorry you are experencing so much pain. google fibromyalgia to find more treatments also.
My fibromyalgia Dr is treating my thryoid, low vitimin D as well as many other things. With Fibromyalgia the mitrochrondia of the cell is damanged and she has done a truck load of blood work to work on all the things it wioll take to heal them so I can feel good. It is worth all the medicene I take and anything I have to do to feel better.

I have fibro. & sometimes Drs. will blame fibro. for any aches & pain we have. I had the shoulder pain for about 6mo. It was so painful I felt like just having arm taken off. Finally a Orthepedic Dr. diagnosed it a Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Went to PT where they knew what treatment would work best for it. Finally after 4 wks., the pain went away. Now I know when shoulder hurts what to do to prevent it from acting up.
I hope the pain has eased up & you found the problem.
Take care
Kathy
