Does fibro affect the tummy?

I suffer with lots of undiagnosed stomach pains. Upper abdominal pain........pains in my lower left side, and other areas too. CT scans and x-rays always come out normal. Sometimes it is difficult to eat. Sometimes it hurts after eating too. Doctors, of course, say they don't know and send me home to suffer.

Could this also be fibro?

Do you see the glass as half empty or half full? I say, what difference does it make--I paid for a full glass,so either way I am getting jipped!!!

I don't know the answer to your question, but what I am finding out (and I was recently dx with fibro) is that it can affect so many areas of our lives and that everyones symptoms are different.  I have some stomach problems but I think they are caused by taking pain meds.  I try to make sure I've eaten before I take any medicine and that seems to help me.  From what you said, it doesn't sound like that's what you're talking about.  Do you have a doctor who treats you for fibro?  I would recommend talking the them about this and if you don't, you might want to see about finding one.  Hope you get answers and feel better soon.

I'm not gonna be a big help here but yep fibro can present in all kinds of crazy and seemingly unrelated symptoms. On the other hand don't let the docs just chalk everything unknown up to the fibro. There are also a gazillion other things it could be. Have you seen a gastroenterologist, I think they would be the doc to see for tummy troubles. I feel for ya, it's hard enough having fibro but to have other stuff going on too is frustrating.

Hi there!
Reading your post sounded just like the questions I have.  I have suffered with stomach pains when I eat almost anything since I had my RNY surgery in Dec. 2008.  My doc has done every test known to him including MANY endoscopies.  I have been hospitalized for dehydration due to these pains, but I can't take the pain right now when I try to drink. The past few days have been even worse than usual, I have been in a great deal of pain whether I have eaten, not eaten, drank anything or not!!!!! Could I be suffering a Fibro flair and the pain is from that too??
I wonder, now that I have read your problems, if there is a connection between Fibro. and RNY surgery.  My doc says Fibro could make my days tougher to deal with but that he doesn't see how the two could effect each other in the horrible way I suffer.  I wonder...

I have the same symptoms.  I have had Fibro for years and I hurt in my intestines or stomach even tho I eat or not eat, drink or not drink.  I think maybe it is a flair up.  I hurt all over today.  but what to do...

I, too, suffer pain in my sides, chest, abdominal area. When I eat I have pain in my middle back. The pain in my sides occur like clockwork, seriously. So sorry for your pain.

I hate fibro, but I hate lupus even more. What's the saying: Fibro will not kill you, it only makes you wish you were dead.
I've had fibro since 1998.

My dietitian and I are doing a process of elimination right now.  It could be a lack in Thiamine vitamin.  Get lab work done to see if there is a vitamin deficiency.  She said that could cause nausea.  Which I have been having a lot of lately myself.  I just wonder if it is a long term effect from using Cymbalta.  I have been off of it for almost a year and that is when my nausea started.  I was on the Cymbalta for about 6-9 months.  Does anyone else feel this could be a long term side effect note know by the FDA?  What are your thoughts.  (any thoughts and comments are welcome)

I have been taking cymbalta and lyrica for about 6 months now.

My fingers are stiffer, I get shooting electrical pains through my hands almost constantly.  I occassionally have a razor like pain through my buttocks, like someone is trying to laser saw me in half.   I get the same pains in my upper arms.   It feels like I've been trying to lift 100 pounds.

I havent had any nausea or stomach pains/cramps.  I have been having unbearable carb cravings, even if I go lite carbs for a couple of days, I still crave them until my head literally hurts.

It is making my love of a pot of coffee a day - sadly - go away.  Now it's all I can do to drink a couple of mugs a day.   I hate that!!

Yes it could be from the Fibro, yes it very well can be a flare up. I have an amazxing dr here in CT and have been amazed at what he has found. Last winter I had a migrain for 5 days and swelling at the back of my head and neck, after 2 CAT scans and a MRI they determined it was a fibro flar up, I have had other eppisodes also like that. But I find when I know i am having a fare up that my stomach also acts up. Have you discussed with your md the chance of a flare up and if a increase in Fibro meds for a week would help? Good luck and feel well,
