Hi everyone. I just found out about this forum so I was thinking this is the best place to find out about fibromyalgia. I got diagnosed with it the other day and the dr prescribed me Lyrica which I cant take that without taking nexium. Both of them have to get prior approval from my insurance so now i'm having to wait to be able to take anything. I was just wondering if anyone has any other ways of dealing with the pain. I mean, i dont even wanna take any meds cause I just dont like taking pills. A friend of mine has fibromyalgia and she is in constant pain all the time. I hurt a lot and I just wanna find other ways of dealing with the pain besides taking meds. So if anyone can give me any advice or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Also, does anyone know of any sites where I can learn more about fibromyalgia. Thanks everyone!!

My fiancee had to change from Nexium when we lost our extended coverage (both of us got laid off), so he's on Raberprazole, and seems to be doing well. Ask your pharmacist if there is a generic that can be substituted.

I find that making sure I stretch alot all day long and warmth helps mine. I do take narcotics but even that doesn't stop all the pain. E#qch person is so different that what works for one doesn't always work for another. I found cynmbalta to help far more than lyrica did.If your insurance covers a pain clinic they are the ones who seem to deal with fibro the most.

I go to a pain management doctor and she has been really good.  I'm on pain meds and I take Cmybalta (30 mg 2 x daily).  The Cymbalta is for my depression and I've been on it for about 6 years, but it is also a drug that helps a lot of people with fibro.  I was dx with this about 2 months ago.  I've been suffering and talking to my PCP for 6 months (actually 2 years total but the pain and fatigue have been intense the last six months).

I've had a medial spinal block to help with my sciatic nerve pain which was extreme.  I just had it on Tuesday of this week and so it's still a work in process.  I may have to have another 1 or 2 before I get prolonged relief.  Right now, if my sciatic nerve wasn't hurting I would not be in tremendous pain.  I think this is due to being in a "remission" type place with my fibro.  I know everyone is different.

Not sure any of this is helpful but I hope you find the relief you're needing and in the way you want it.  I'm not real active on any of the OH forums but I do try to check in here every 2 or 3 days.

I use the Fentanyl patch and Norco as a backup.  The patch is 50mcg, which is just right.  This combo works well for me, but try to start out in a pain clinic as pcp don't like to prescribe narcotics because of the federal law.  But some of us need them, as reg meds don't touch it.  I can't even tell I am using the patch I don't feel "high" or anything.  Just no pain, or at least not as much.  The Norco knocks out any lingering pain left.  Some people have problems with the patch sticking to them.  I put it where my bra straps are or where a tank top would be, by my breastbone sometimes.

I have been dealing with fibromyalgia for two years. I have two three year olds and that adds to my struggle. So anyway, I took Lyrica for almost nine months and it was definately not the med for me. I became very forgetful (I mean to the point that it scared me) and I lost a lot of my math function. Apparently this is a rare, but possible, side effect of the drug. I made the choice that I would rather be in pain than look things I use every day and not remember the names of them. After ending the Lyrica I regained most of my memory abilities, but the math skills never did come back.

What I do to ease my pain is to try to keep my stress to a minimum (which I am not very successful at). I also am sure not to overwork my muscles. I have purchased a 4" pillowtop mattress and added a feather bed on top, which has helped a great deal. I also limit my sugar intake. The intake of high sugar/carb foods is proven to irritate fibro. I take some narcotics, but try to keep them to a minimum.

Just make sure you find out what works for you and do what you need to do. People will tell you all sorts of things and give you a hard time, but try to ignore that. Look at some of the t-shirts on cafe press about fibro, they'll really give you a laugh and understand some of what you will go through.

Good Luck and prayers!
