Plastic Surgery with Fibromyalgia????

Hi I am wondering how many of you had plastic surgery after WLS with the diagnosis of Fibro?

I will be 2 years post RNY in September.  I really want to have PS in October, but I am afraid to talk to my PCP about it.  My PCP thinks I have fibro but still is in the process of ruling out any other conditions.  I did not tell the plastic surgeon I have fibro. at my consult last week.  I just told him I have a chronic pain condition due to 15 years of chronic back pain & I told him what meds I take. Because that is all I really know right now for sure.

I know it sounds crazy but I am already in so much pain!  If anything I will probably be more comfortable because of the pain meds I will take post-op.  I really want to get my BL/BA & TT before the end of the year.  But, I am afraid that it could cause more issues with the fibro because of all the nerves that will be cut etc...

Have any of you had PS?  What were your experiences?

Thank you,

I haven't had plastics but have had close to a dozen different surguries the last few years. I haven't noticed that they made the fibro any worse, plus like you pointed out you get the good pain meds post op. I take oxycodone and morphine for my chronic pain. If I were you I'd let the plastic surgeon know you may have fibro just so he's aware. If I were in your place I'd go for the plastics as soon as possible and get that flab gone for good. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the encouragment!  I am going to tell the surgeon that I pick about the Fibro.  I think that just because we have it does not mean we should have to walk around with saggy skin. ;-)

Hi,
In my opinion and it is just my own opinion surgery does not make fibro worse. I have had fibro for at least 25 years and it was brought on by viral encephalitis as a 10 year old child. I have had many major surgeries and the fibro has not gotten any worse. I am planning on having breast augmentation in a year or so. I am not at all concerned with the fibro. I have flair ups over nothing so if I do flair I know that it will pass. I don't know if this helps or not but I would not hesitate to have PS. I think mentally you will feel so much better about yourself and that can make the fibro better.
