Has anyone taken Neurontin?  If so, has it caused weight gain.  I have fibromyalgia and am trying to find something that will give me some relief.  I  have heard that Neurontin causes weight gain.  I tried Lyrica for a while, but that didn't seem to help and it caused me to gain weight.  Any responses would be appreciated.  Thank you!

I have heard the same thing.  My grandma tried it and that is what happened to her.  I actually heard of a few people who had a stroke while taking it.  IDK if it had anything to do w the drug or not. Good luck!!

I used it for awhile and didn't have any big weight gain. I just got to the point where it wasn't helping anymore, but as far as drugs go it has very few side effects and is a pretty good drug to start with anyway. I take cymbalta now and it is working well.

Hi I've had Fibromyalgia for four years. Until I started on Neurontin there was no relief. My Dr is a pain manager and prescribed and incleased until we got to the right mix. Over a year there was a 15lb gain. Went off for a while as a test, as I take many pain meds and wanted to be sure the gain came from the meds. It did.

Here is the truth not "this is what I heard". For me the pain was far worse so I went back onto the meds  and will not stop until there is something better.  I take a very large dose, daytime and  night to help with sleep.

If you have anyother questions please ask.

Hi, my fibromyalgia is so much worse in the winter months. I was taking Neurontin, didn't gain weight, but my vision became blurry and sure enough, my eyesight had changed. I am now taking Cymbalta, Lyrica, and flexeril. I also have Trazadone for sleep on my bad nights. I also have neck dystonia, and received Botox injections into those muscles that are in constant spasm. That really helped a lot!!! I've read so much literature on Fibromyalgia, and I have to agree with most research that this syndrome is soooo individualized, no 2 people have the exact experience with the disease or its treatments. GOOD LUCK finding your personal solutions, stay well.

Hello, I started taking neurontin (gabapentin) 1200mgs all at night about 3 months ago.  My primary doc knew that I lost over 100lbs and didn't want to gain weight.  she told me that knowledge is power and that I should know that this med causes people to crave carbs and that is what causes the weight gain.  I don't know if that is true but I became extremely mindful of my card intake and have has no weight gain whatsoever.  I hope that is somewhat helpful to you.  sometimes people gain weight on meds when they don't know that is a side effect and so it ends up being too late once the weight is gained.  the medication works to give me a good night sleep but leaves me hurting during the day because with 4 kids I am unable to be tired during the day.  I hope it works for you.

I was diagnosed with fibro two years ago from a rheumatologist and I have been on a variety of things to assist in managing the issue.  Since then I also have degenerative disc disease, brain lesions which are still in the works for being diagnosed with MS and interstitial cystitis.  I have tried neurontin for a few months but I got too groggy and felt I couldn't function very well.  I personally didn't think it helped too much with the pain or management of the fibro.  I didn't notice any weight gain but wasn't on high doses because I couldn't tolerate it too high.  I am currently on epidural injections, tramadol, vicoden es, doxepin and xanaflex.  I too believe there are no two alike that have fibro and I have known other people who tolerate and do well with the outcome of takin neurontin.  I wish you luck and hope you can be pain free soon!

Best regards,
Jennifer

thanks everyone for the help and information. We are working on it. Right now they gave my Tramadol 150mg at night with the 300mg of trazadone. Not help at all. Still waking many times and very groggy in the morning, even when I go to bed as early as 9PM.

Hi. I haven't been on for quite sometime, but need help with a variety of issues. One problem I have is fibromyalgia. I take Neurontin also. I take 300 mgs. twice a day. I don't know if this is enough or not as I have chronic back pain too. I take Methadone for pain (60 mgs. 4 X a day and 20 mgs. 3 X a day for breakthrough pain). My pain is constant. Some days it is bearable and other days, like yesterday, it wasn't. Every part of my body hurt. Next time I see my primary care doctor I'm going to ask him to increase my Neurontin. I also take Cymbalta and Trazadone to sleep.
