Connecticut or N Florida ???
I desperately need a diagnosis. I've been experiencing "wait and see" for over fiffteen years. At this point I'm willing to travel anywhere in CT; or, in FL N of Gainesvill from Jacksonville to Tallahasse. As long as the rheumatologist is experienced diagnosing fibromyalgia. Often times generalists can be worthless for an initial fibro diagnosis. Thanks.

There really should be some place much closer to get a diagnosis. Are there any teaching centers or colleges near you that teach medical students. Any hospital in a large city should be able to direct you to a rheumatologist or paincenter where you can get a firm diagnosis. They can do a trigger point test to make a determination. You need to really push with your PCP to refer you to a practitioner who can make a final diagnosis. Best of luck!
Thanks for replying. I don't push with my pcp. I get it done, then let the pcp know what's up. History has proven to me that a patient reference beats credentials alone with a potentially difficult diagnosis like one of exclusion.
I deal with pcp's for a periodic physical, routine stuff, and copying them on specialist's files. Also, I don't see any "expert" without references based on patient experience. I've wasted time and money with the "best" of them.
This strategy has served me well for multiple specialties. No more wasted time, money, and energy. I bypass pcp's and their opinions or specialists with practices that do not see my particular illnesses/ symptoms in any volume.
I have access to a lot of facilities. I'm searching for the right one. Thanks again.

I got my diagnosis from my primary care, but only because she graduated med school in the last 3 years or so.. so she was still in the "need to find the solution to this" mentality. It took her a visit with me of about 2 hours straight.. just her being with me.. but after all was said and done, she had a good idea, then ordered some tests - called me that afternoon to confirm my diagnosis.
Sent me to a rheumatologist who immediately confirmed the same.. and now I'm going for treatment. But I live near Tampa, FL.

I agree with Vickie...I have the best pain specialist, but he's in Orlando. He's been a godsend for my fibro...that and the institute he works for invented an IV infusion that's designed just for people with fibro. It was helping me for a while until my veins decided they were sick and tired of needles and kept collapsing. Good luck with finding someone though.
