Hi new here. I have fibromyalgia and I will be getting gastric bypass with in next few months hopefully . I know my weight is not helping with my fibro but here in the last few weeks I have been swollen and for the past few months been waking up in pain.  I will admit I do feel better when I am eating correctly but the pain still there. Dr gave me some water pills does help some. I am just so worried about my knees blowing out before I can get this bypass done. For the fibro I am taking a muscle relaxer and per scribed medicine. Started with 50 mg now on 75 doc said I can up it to 100 or even 150 if need be. I do not like pain meds in fear of addictions. My pain doctor has already informed me that I am already a addict not one of seeking but having to take 4 hydro's a day for the past three months there is no way I wouldn't be. Got news for him I quit taking 4 a day because what he said. So I deal with the pain. Just had surgery in December on a rupture disk in the neck.  Is there any other way then pain meds to deal with the fibro pain.

Hate to rain on your parade but losing the weight won't necessarily help your fibro. Getting the weight off your joints will for sure help but you will still have fibro issues, they may not be quite as bad but it won't go away completely. See my post below yours about addiction. I've done considerably reading on the subject. There's a huge difference between drug addicts seeking a high and folks who use pain meds to control pain. It depends on the reason for taking them.My personal opinion is that there is noway I'm gonna suffer this pain without narcotic med because they are all that works.  However I also only use them when needed, when I'm feeeling good I take a minimum dose and when I'm in tears I take as much as I safely can.  Good luck and hope your bypass gets ok'd soon.
