Savella

I went to the Dr. yesterday for yet another round of pills, and she mentioned to me Savella.  It is supposed to be a new medicine for Fibromyalgia.  Has anyone heard of it?  Better yet, is anyone out here taking it???  How are the side effects?  I did not like the long term side effects of Cymbalta, so I am looking to steer away from those kind of side effects, but I am interested to see how it stacks up.

It just dawned on me why I have been hurting so bad lately - I came off of Cymbalta and now I am feelling full force pain for the first time in 1-1/2 years.

Well I haven't tried it myself yet but have seen good reports on it. I think there are a few folks here taking it so maybe they will chime in and be able to give a better report. Best of luck to you!

Thanks so much.
I am curious to hear from people.
She wants to see me after surgery and see how things are progressing before we decide whether or not to start it.

Where have you heard/read these reports on it?  I didn't find too much info on it.

hi becky:
i tried savella for a month.  didn't see a noticeable change in pain level, had a terrible case of red eye but not sure it was from the med.  i've had fibro diagnosed for several years now and have decided i'm going to try more lyrica.  currently taking two at bedtime, along with cymbalta, tizanidine, and alprazolam.
just an fyi - my medical insurance wouldn't cover the medication.  i'm not sure if that's because it's so new or because it's more than 100 bucks a month.  not too concerned with finding out, either, since there was no signifcant change in symptoms.
hope that helps

I was on Savella for about 2 months.  The first month I was sick sick sick- when they say nausea and upset stomach are a side effect- they didnt lie.  I lost about 15lbs in that month (and Im still pro-op!).  I couldnt eat...  The second month, I felt much better in the tummy.  As for helping the Fibro- the pain was SIGNIFICANTLY better, like night and day.  I was also sleeping better at night.  However...  I was exhausted during the day too!  Worse than Fibro fog and fatigue.  I could barely get out of bed some mornings I was so tired.  Ive never been like that!  So, I had to stop it.  My 20 month old daughter wasnt a fan of mommy in bed :(  The Dr did say that sleepiness is a VERY rare side effect though.  I wish I hadnt had it, because other than being tired, I hadnt felt that pain free and balanced in a LONG time!  I am on Cymbalta now, just started it, at a very low dose.  Not a fan so far...

I sweat like a pig while I was on it.  Didn't help the pain so I switched back to Cymbalta.  It helps some but I still have a lot of pain.

Hi Becky,
I was in a lot of pain a couple of weeks ago - you'll see a post below yours from me.  I went to my doctor and she suggested we try adding the Savella in addition to my Lyrica.  She mentioned the nausau to me, but I've been on it a week now and haven't experienced any nausau.  I have experienced an increase in energy.  She mentioned that it targed the chronic fatigue portion of the disease and the Lyrica would target the pain.  I also have a muscle relaxer that I can take on if I have a really bad day I can't get out of bed.  I'll let you know in a month or so how it's going if you like.  Good luck on your surgery.
Hugs,

Candy

Becky,

i have not tried savella but want to. currently i am on cymbalta 90 mg, and i don't think it is doing much, but i am afraid if and when i go off of it, i will see that is was helping.  What types of side effects did you experience with the cymbalta?  the only side effects i have heard about with the savella is the nausea and being hot.  Good luck with your surgery!
