6 days post op :)
Hello Everyone,
I had my RNY surgery last tuesday, got home thursday, and have been feeling better everyday. My fibro pain has been minimal, so that is a blessing. I am somewhat wondering if the strict diet has something to do with it?
The surgery went well. No complications. The pain when i woke up was very bad. I was not expecting it. I was very uncomfortable, and was not very nice :(. It took a while for the pain pump to catch up, and kick in. But after a few hours it was somewhat ok.
At home i have been getting my full 64 oz of liquid/water each day. I have only been able to get 1/2 or so of the protein in. Everything there has been very smooth.
Around Day 5, yesterday, i started really misssing "real food" the smells when my family cooks are amazing. I even had a "mini" breakdown yesterday after my husband and daughter came home with a lot of yummy groceries. They weren't even "unhealthy" groceries, just good, well stocked ones, then they had grilled cheeseburgers and i had a piti party. I guess i should be thankful that i am not the one cooking, cleaning, or planning meals, but it did get to me. I am getting pretty sick of liquids. Some day, Some day....At least i am not hungry.
I have a large lump under my upper left incision. It is quite painful, and last night it started leaking clear bloody tinged fluid. I did not freak out, because i had been searching the forums for "painful lump" and read that this can happen, and that it is called a seroma. a collection of white blood cells sent to the area to fight off injury to a site. I will call the dr today, and tell her, but at least, due to this wondering site, i did not freak out when it started leaking in the middle of the nite!
thanks to everyone for all your support, and great informative posts. It has made this part of my journey so easy.
hugs

Congratulations on your surgery! You are on your way to a healthier you! I had surgery about 16 months ago and have lost 120+ pounds. I cannot say my fibro is better...but life in general is better without all those pounds. It will get easier . I too had a period where I missed food and felt so deprived. But when those pounds start coming off, it's all worth it. Remember when you have a bad day here and there...it will get better. Much luck to you with your surgery and your fibro.

Congrats on your surgery and it will get better, this is just a very difficult and emotional time for everyone. Eating better, more healthy foods can help the fibro from what I've read. If you were used to eating junk food or fast food it doesn't give your body the proper fuel. When you switch to a healthier lifestyle it gives your body what it needs and therefore helps the fibro. Increased protein like our in diets is great for fibro because the protein "feeds" the muscles what they need so while it won't cure the nasty fibro it can help.
