Has WLS helped your Fibro pain?

I have Fibro, arthritis and possibly a disease called Polymyositis and I was wondering if it has helped at all with your daily pain? If this even took 25% of my daily pain away I would be grateful. Thanks for you replies.

This is a hard question to answer. I am 62 had WLS surgery in 06.
I had already had two total knee replacements, I have several serious issues with my neck, and spine. I cannot say that the surgery helped my fibro pain BUT I am glad that I had the surgery. I started at 470 and am about 325 now. That was enough loss to make me feel better in general and I can put my shoes on and move so much better. I could not walk or stand even a little while before I had to use a wheel chair and I could not breathe well. Now I can walk and stand a lot better and can breathe. So even though I don't think it helped my fibro it helped other things so I can deal with my fibro better. Plus my health is better no more thyroid med's, no blood pressure med's, no chlosterol med's, no asthma med's so surgery has made a big difference.
Good luck.

Sorry the bad news is it won't help the fibro, good news it probably WILL help the arthritis pain. My fibro gets worse every day no matter what I do and I'm on narcotic pain meds for it. What helps mine most is keeping a very low stress level and lots of stretching. I would suggest you see either a rheumatologist or a pain management clinic for your fibro pain they can help much more than your PCP can. Good luck and know you aren't alone in this icky boat called fibro!

It has not helped at all-but--I am alot more comfortable and can get around easier (and clothes shopping is alot more fun).

No, it didn't help fibro. It just helps doctors NOT assume everything is weight related.  For that I am glad I had the surgery.

I have lost 93 pounds and my fibro is as bad as it has ever been. The doctors always told me that if I lost weight, the fibro would get better. They were so wrong. They blame everything on weight. I was so disappointed that I did not have any improvement and at times things have been worse with the fibro. It is a fight everyday with pain. I also have severe arthritis and the weight loss has helped that a little but not significantly. I think that fibro is always there lurking just waiting to cause a blow up with my health and I am always in pain but do have flairs that are unbearable.

Thanks for all your replies. It is discouraging, but maybe if I wasn't so blah in other areas the pain would not be so bad ~wishful thinking~ I will have to take it day by day & Pray for a miracle. We're going to try a new fibro med so hopefully that will help too. Take care and keep up the great work!!!

Reading this has helped me so much. I was told that once I lose the weight, that the Fibro will go away.  And I'm glad to know the real story, at which the weight loss will not help. That way I will not get my hopes up.

I'm sick with Doctors always telling me, EVERYTHING is related to weight, its like NO ITS NOT!  stop thinking with the easy route, and use your freaking brain!

I just came from the neurologist and she said she wished that I would have come to her before the roux-n-y surgery.  She said that the malabsorbsion we have from surgery is making the fibro symptoms worse, not better.  Arghh!

I have Fibro and my pain is alot less now after losing the weight.  I lost about 75 lbs.  I see a rheumatologist for pain management.  After trying countless different meds.  Effexor is the only one that has helped me with the pain.  It's not gone, but it's nowhere near what it was a year ago.  I'm not in tears daily like before.
I hope you will find a med that works for you.
