Hi
So i have my surgery date!  November 10th.  I met with the team today for all my pre op instructions.  They want me to stop mobic and tramadol. I take an Tramadol daily for fibro pain, and now i have to stop.  I stopped Mobic a week ago, because that is a very strong NSAID, and i understand the reason for that, but Tramadol?   i didn't think that was an anti inflam...

This is really going to be a hard 3 weeks.  I can continue the cymbalta and synthroid, but only tylenol for pain?  that is not going to work, and i am dreading it!  Suggestions?  experiences?

Thats true and you never can take them after surgery. I have severe arthritis and the fibro, sometimes I wish I could take something. I take 3 vicoden a day mostly for my arthritis. But I am still glad that I had the surgery and stopped cause I didn't need  2 blood pressure pills, zocor, thyroid med's and needing two med's for my asthma....
So there are pro's and con's.

Hi, I don't understand, either, why you would have to be off the Tramadol, as it's not an NSAID.  I'm 4 years out post-op and have been taking Tramadol 3x a day almost a year now. It only takes the edge off the fibro pain for me, but is better than the Neurontin side effects of drowsiness.  I have been taking Cymbalta about 3 months, but can't say it gives me any pain relief, though maybe helps me cope a little better with the pain.  Following RNY, we're also told that we are supposed to avoid extended relief meds, which Cymbalta is, due to the malabsorption factor and the med working it's way too quickly thru the system.  What do we do??  If I were you, I would force the issue about you needing to stay on the Tramadol, especially if it's helping you, and it not being an NSAID.
Email me if you have more questions and wishing you the best on your upcoming day!

Hi OG

Thanks for you advice.  Actually, i called the office yesterday and told them i was desperate for some relief.  The doctor did approve the tramadol for me now, even though i only get somewhat relief from it.  i didn't think it was an NSAID either, so not sure what the problem was, unless it enlarges the liver?

thanks again

Ask your Dr about Savella.  Its new and not in the NSAID class.  I dont have to stop taking it for my surgery.
