Ok I'm outing myself abit here but way back in the olden hippie days I did indeed partake of the "herb". I would never want to feel that wasted and try to take care of kids. You can't think straight and driving is out of the question. I find it hard to believe all options have been exhausted. Have you tried Lyrica, Cymbalta or Savella? They are just the new drugs but there are hundreds of other pain options besides marijuana. I take morphine and cymbalta myself and the first few days I was a little "drifty" feeling but I soon got accostomed to it and now I have no problem functioning with it, I even drive with no problems. Myself I would suggest seeing a pain specialist before resorting to pot. Personally I would never resort to using it no matter what because yes you'll probably be stoned all day and not be able function at your best. It does indeed set a bad example for the kids too. This is just my personal opinion but I really would investigate other options and other docs that are more familiar with treating fibro like the pain spec. or a rheumatologist because most PCPs aren't very good at treating it. Best of luck to you!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR THOUGHTS. ALTHOUGH I ACTUALLY HAVE TRIED LYRICA , I THINK I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT  IVE HAD FIBROMYALGIA SINCE I WAS 10 I'M 31 NOW SO I HAVE BEEN THROUGH  LOTS I MEAN LOTS OF MEDS. THE RHEUMATOLOGIST EVEN HAD ME IN A SPECIAL FIBROMYALGIA CLINIC, I DO PHYSICAL THERAPY 2-3 x A WEEK AND I JUST FEEL WORSE AND OF ALL THINGS IM ALLERGIC TO MORPHINE, I CANT TAKE ANYTHING IN THE NAPROSYN FAMILY  BECAUSE OF MY HEART SO I AM JUST STUCK . I REMEMBER EVEN HAVING ELECTRIC WAVE THERAPY AT KAISER THAT DID NOT HELP, WELL   I HOPE THE DOC. CAN FIND SOMETHING THAT WILL ACTUALLY WORK.

                                                                        THANKS.

Have you tried the Fentanyl patch?  I really function better with it.  I also use Norco as a breakthough med.  This combo together;  I can hardly tell I have Fibro, aside from the fatigue.  If I put my patch on when I am supposed to, it's fine.  Sometimes the patch is forgotten about until the end of the third day, then I remember to change it.  If you haven't been on a narcotic med, they will start you off on a very low dose then bump you up.  I am in a pain clinic and I thought I had tried everything too.  You might need a combo of meds, including narcotics.  That seems to be the best med, but forget the "medical pot".  I can function on my meds, I don't think the other choice is a good option.  Tell your doctor, tell him, don't ask to try the Fentanyl patch.  It isn't morphine.  Fentanyl is a pain med all in it's own.  Hope this helps.  Kristy

You might try the oxis, I took them before the morphine and they really helped me. I only changed because we were having trouble getting the oxis for awhile. They never made me loopy like the pot did. I also used a fentenyl patch when my hip was bad before they did a replacement on it (I was grinding bone on bone) it was amazing.Completely took the pain away and believe me it was severe. Good luck, I sure hope they can find something to help you we all know how painful it can be!

I am glad to hear you are willing to at least try the patch.  It is called Duragesic Fentanyl patch.  The people that say the patch didn't work for them probably don't realize it takes about 10 hrs for the first patch to absorb into your skin.  So be patient. (but use a back up until then) But I guarantee you will find much relief.  Some people also find them hard to stick on the skin, but I put mine on my chest, like under my bra area or tank top area or on my hip side. If it doesn't stick after a shower or it itches after a shower, I take it off and put it to a new area with surgical tape.  It works great.  If I like this patch, it must be good.  I am very picky.   The doses come in different mcg, so it starts at 12 mcg and goes up.  Do a little research on them before you go to the doctor, so you can backup your argument.  LOL  You don't have to put the patch where the pain is.  It will distribute all over thru the skin.  Please let us know if you were able to get them.  Also the Norco works well with this patch for me.  Only if needed, for pain in hips usually.  Not the Fibro pain with the flu like pain.  Best wishes and I really hope you get some relief.  Kristy
