Fibromyalgia and Surgery

Its been 6 months since being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I'm wondering if anyone has fibro and had the VSG surgery? If so, are there any issues I may need to be aware of?

In the last 6 months, I've gone from severe flare to no signs of fibro at all. I'm hoping this continues, but for how long?

My surgeon is considering putting me on narcotics for the pain during/after surgery. Anyone else with fibro had to do this?

I had a different surgery but have also had at least a surgery a year for 5 years  (lots of different kinds). I've not had any increase in fibro pain from the surgeries, maybe I'm just lucky because I've read where others do have flares after surgery. Mental stress seems to set me off for a flare. If I were you I'd wait to see if you need them but by all means if the pain increases do use the narcotics. You'll be on pain meds for awhile just from the surgery itself. Good luck with your surgery! Just a FYI the weight loss won't help the fibro pain but will help any joint or arthritic pain. Lots of folks go into surgery hoping it will help the fibro but it very rarely does.

Thank You, HisLady for giving me the "straight facts" about the surgery not helping the fibro pain etc... I'm a realist. I want to know the good, bad, ugly and the worst of scenarios before surgery. I want to be able to make an informed opinion for my healthcare.
It means a lot to me that you told me fibro is rarely affected by surgery. I have Sjogren's syndrome and I'm looking forward to the weight loss decreasing the pain in my joints and bones.

I'm hoping you're feeling much better after all of those surgeries.

Thanks Again
