Can't find the right pain reliever

Hey my fellow fibro sufferers....I am sick to death of struggling to find the right medication.
My fibro is not letting up.  After a over 300 pound weight loss, it is just as rough as it was preop.  I hate to say this, especially for preops hoping to resolve their pain with surgery, but as it turns out, in my research I've found it does not help with fibro pain :(
After a year of what I thought was the right medication, I built up a tolerence to it and it no longer worked.  So I went on another, then the doctor was like "I don't want you on this, it's a dirty medication"..wtf?? why did you prescribe it then???
The latest is Morphine sulfate with no relief.  I called to say my pain was a 8 and was told to double the morning dose.
NOthing.
I am so frustrated and sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Any suggestions?
Donna

That's so miserable! Have you tried an actual pain clinic because I found them to be far more knowledgable about pain meds than my PCP. Plus they were more willing to go with higher doses. I take 30mg of morphine 2x a day plus 20mg of cymbalta 2x a day and between the two it seems to keep things pretty tolerable. Hope you find some relief soon!

Thank you hislady.  I am awaiting a referral from my PCP to a pain clinic.
I think it will be my best hope for any pain relief.
Update:  Saw my PCP on Tuesday and he prescribed a morphine IR 100mg x2 daily and morphine 30mg x2 a day as needed for breakthrough pain.
I strongly believe that as RNY'ers we do not absorb the full amount of medication that we swallow orally.
I would like to resort to the fentynal patch.
But my PCP will not prescribe this, only a pain clinic can do this.
On top of all of this, I have a pretty bad case of bronchitis as well....as if the other sh*t was not enough
Upon waking up, I cough up all sorts of icky poo's in the AM.
The rescue inhaler is helping....only just a bit.
I feel lucky that I am able to have the opportunity to go to the pain clinic.   I just pray the new Pain Specialist will be sympathetic to my situation.  Us RNY'ers are a special case...we have special needs, many of which alot of doctors don't want to deal with, mainly it's because they dont want to "step on toes" of any work the gastric bypass

Hi Donna,
I agree with HisLady.  I am in a pain clinic.  And I found that when I told them what I wanted to try for my relief, they were willing to help me.  I use the Fentanyl pain patch 50mcg, and Norco for break through pain relief.  I just got bumped up on the patch (my hips and knees were still hurting) and I feel pretty darn good.  Fentanyl is a pain medicine all in it's own catagory.  I looked it up to see if it had morphine in it or what, but I just found that it is a potent pain med that I find works very well.  Give it a try.  You could be very surprised.  Kristy

Thanks Kristy
My PCP should be calling soon, within the next few days on a referral for the pain clinic.
I just hope that they can help more so with the pain since my Primary doctor's hands are tied in some medications.
Thanks again for sharing your information!
Gentle hugs....
Donna
