I did tell my doctor that since the surgery I have actually had more pain, even after losing the weight. Since some think fm is a metabolic disorder, the quick weight loss would cause flare ups. I just know, I hurt worse since i've lost weight. Looking for good doctor that specialized in fm somewhere in michigan. I live close to Flint. If anyone knows of any, please give me a jingle. Thanks.  JoAnn

I can tell you that any trauma, whether it is a physcial (car accident), mentally (stress, lifestyle) or from surgeries.  Yes, surgeries can cause a flare up.  It isn't the type of surgery that you have but surgery in general.  So the people that are convinced that the wls "gave" you Fibro, is very much miss informed.  I also believe that we have these symptoms light enough earlier in our youth, but the doctors can't find what is wrong until we get older, or a surgery or whatever brings it full blown.  The symptoms we have are symptoms I had looking back over the years.  I have 2 people in my life pass away within 2 months apart and I had a partial hysterectomy for uterine tumors.  That then, is when I started getting the symptoms full blown.  The last two phases I feel, are the creepy nerve tingles, spasms, (can't really explain) but we all know, and the "flu" like feelings all the time.  Fibro is pain in the muscles and tendons, but it is created from the overacted nerve endings that are just over productive for us and then somehow the pain results with all the other crap.  Any doctor can Dx you, I don't know a specialist can do anything for you that an MD can't do.  It is just all about finding a pain med combo that works for you, and don't over do it.

I can say that I didn't really notice anything different until my last surgery which was 1.5yrs ago and that is when shortly after my surgery I began noticing the flu like feeling and sleep was bad, I thought it was because my stepdad and mother in law had past away two months apart, but then I had the surgery for tumors and "Wow" it really blew up.  I kept telling my doctor about it and he said I had Fibro.  I went to a pain management clinic and they confirmed the DX.  If I over do it, and work in the yard, mowing, raking, etc, I am wiped out for three days.  Weight loss unfortunatly doesn't have a bearing on the Fibro.  Two different issues, but your body may shift as you loss weight and you might notice a little more pain in your hips and knees.  That is what happened to me, I thought I had arthritis in my hips, but it was the Fibro.

Hmmmm, yes and no...
Yes, the WLS has helped me to get my energy back --- but no.... if I abuse my energy -- I go into flare-ups or big time fatigue... I'm still glad I had the WLS, but unfortunately it does not help the FMS in overall. I just need to find a balance in exercising moderately... not too much all at once.... otherwise I get hit 3 or 4 days later.  I found this link that really helps other people understand "what I am" .... http://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/navigation/BYDLS-TheSpoonT heory.pdf and what my limitations are.  People need to realize that they are lucky that I'm there at all because I'm using one of the spoons (you gotta read it to comprehend that).

Now I'm realizing I've been on the puter past my limit.... signing off.  Kelly

I have FM and getting ready to having WLS and can't wait!  The reason for my WLS is for the co-morbities excess weight causes, like high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc, etc I feel if the surgery can make it easier for me to walk around it is well worth it.  I find the longer you have Fibro the weaker you get simply by no being able to move around so much, so adding 20lbs of weight is a lot.  My WL surgeon told me it won't help the Fibro or pain but it will make moving around easier.  In addition to FM and being overweight I have Atrial Fibrilllation which is an electrial issue with your heart.  Dr's have no idea what causes it in some patient's.  But after I have WLS I will have a heart ablation to take care of the AFib and I should be good to go.  I will still suffer from FM but remember there is more to FM than just pain.  I suffer greatly from chronic insomnia, cognitative issue's, short term memory issue's etc.  Perhaps that will get better once I can get rid of my CPAP machine.  Wish me luck everyone!  I am new to the sight and the message boards and I am so glad I found you all!
