Weight Gain Question

Suffering because I am not on any meds for my fibro because of the fear of gaining weight.
I've read a lot of posts where weight gain is a big issue when taking meds such as Lyrica and Cymbalta.
What meds are you taking and is it causing weight gain?
Also, if it is causing weight gain, what do you think is the reason for the gain?
Does it increase your appetite?
Slow your metabolism?
Etc.

I started out with lyrica and gained weight with it so stopped. I'm on cymbalta now and it seems to act more like "speed" I haven't gained with it. However my pain doc said that is unusual and most people get sleepy with it. I always have to be different! I also take 30 mg of morphine twice a day so between the two meds I do OK. The pain is bearable, still there to some degee but much less than before. The trouble with fibro meds is what works for one doesn't work for another so all we can do is give them a try and see what happens. Good luck!

Dear Amy, I was wondering that myself. I am almost 5 months post op and havn't lost any weight this month. My appetite seems to have increased. Even when my stomach says I'm full, my mouth says it wants more. I'm on lyrica for a couple years now,but just increased to twice daily.And just restarted back on zoloft not too long ago, and I was also wondering if that has affected my weight loss and appetite. I am currently weak due to protein,albumin and iron being low. Trouble getting in my protein. Can't find powder I like and was trying to get by food, but think I was eating too much, not counting calories. I've only lost 50 pounds since surgery, and now am at stand still, I think i'm going to ask my pharmacist if these can increase appetite. I know everyone is different. Now that I think back, maybe the lyrica did make me gain some weight preop.My best advice would be to check with your pharmacist. Good luck.   JoAnn

Dear JoAnn, I am new  and have fibro. I have tried zoloft, lyrica and cymb. I gained about 30 pounds and my legs and face were so swollen I could hardly walk or turn my head. Weight gain stayed. Swelling went down, also developed congestive heart failure. My sister used lyrica  and the same happened to her. I think it should be banned from the market. Sorry I know it works for a lot of you, but it was so horrible for both my sister and I. Hoped this info was a help to you. Thank you Candace
