Sort of diagnosed with fibro, need advise

HI. I am new to this website but what I have read so far is very helpful.
A little history - I am 36 with 2 children. My first child was born in AUgust 2004. I had to have a c-section and all went well except I started having muscle spasms in my back that would take my breath away. I was just told to relax and take more pain meds. I have a long history of kidney stones so I am pretty tolerable to pain but as time went on the pain in my back and neck became untolerable. A pain doc said fibromyalgia and we tried lidocaine injections in my neck and pain meds.
My problem is my PCP doesn't believe in fibromyalgia and my new pain doc doesn't seem interested.  I go through meds like they are candy because I have been taking the same thing for 4 years but all my docs want to go backward instead of forward, so my meds only last for a short while and then I am in constant pain when thay run out.  OTC stuff is worthless at this point but I have two boys to raise and I can't be debilitated like this.
I am sorry to rant but I feel like no one understands this pain - they all just think it is in my head.  THanks for listening and I welcome all suggestions and advise.

I hope I don't dissappoint you but that really doesn't sound like fibro pain. While we have severe pain it isn't usually localized like that and it is a different type of pain. Ours feels like the worst case of flu you ever had, where you ache all over but it never goes away, ever. I would suggest you try to see a rheumatologist or a different pain specialist. Get on the internet and read about fibro and see if you think this is how you feel. I don't for a second doubt your pain but I think it is something other than fibro, we don't as a rule have spasms like that. To me it sounds more like a nerve problem, maybe a neurologist would also be in order. Don't give up tho keep pushing for a diagnosis there is NO reason for you to have to tolerate this type of pain. If you have to, find another PCP but keep pushing and don't give up! I wish you the very best and feel free to keep coming here because we may be able to help with the pain even if it's not fibro.

Hislady,

You always have a lot of informative information in your posts but I'm having trouble reading them.  Can you switch to a smaller font or a simpler one?  I have issues from the fibro with my eyes at times and the print on your posts seems to all run together for me.

Just a suggestion.

Sorry about the font size, someone else said the same thing, yet when it shows on my screen it's really tiny. I'll try a different size, thanks for letting me know!

Hi there. I was looking at your posts, the one from 7/20 looks the best so far. However I spend a lot of time on my computer and have found "Arial" - "Tahoma" - "times new roman" - and "verdana" to work best.
This was in "Arial" set to larger. Hope it helps.
We are all interested in what you have to say.
Robin

Hi,
I was just reading about the font; I use Comic Sans MS & x-small print and I comment A LOT and say A LOT so I want to ask if everyone can read my font size or should it be bigger.   I just want to make sure the email has enough room on the space.  I always seem to make long comments.  Please let me know so we are all comfortable reading without blurry or strain to the eyes.  Thanks a bunch.

I have been dx with fibro for about 5 years.  I am a nurse going to school with to be a Nurse Practioner.  I first would find another doctor.  The doctor is not doing his job by treating your pain.  Depending on the pain clinic some can be good but some are not.  Have you had an MRI of your neck???   I would think this is what you may need.  Don't let anyone stick anything in your neck unless they know whhat the problem is.  Stand up for yourself and demand that you get the proper medical care.  And then go see a Rheumatolgist.  They are the ones who diagnose it but your family physician can manage it.  I take oxycontin and vicodin HP for break through pain.  Be carefull with your pain medication because too much vicodin can kill your liver.  I wish you luck and hope this helps..
