Did I tell you guys about my awful ER trip?

I wasn't feeling well last wed I had what seemed like chest pain and my chest felt heavy so I drove myself to the ER right after work, I got there at about  5:30, well if you have any heart symptoms one of the first things they do is give you baby aspirins. (They sure don't taste good like the use to that is for sure!). Anyway they did an EKG and other tests, xray and other tests. So I had the privilege of being right next to a 1.5 yr old that seemed like they were from another county strong foreign accent, the baby was sick and they were trying to get blood samples and it was not going well, so of course, this kid (I can't say I blame him) screamed bloody murder anytime a tech, nurse or doctor attempted to go near him, so that was fun, I layed there for a long time and pretty soon by about 9 I started getting a headache (go figure) well it was no doubt  turning into a nasty headache brought on or in conjunction with a flare. No mind you when I get these headache's I'm usually taking my percocet. I asked the male nurse if I could get something for the pain. He tried saying he could give me Tylenol!!! Yeah okay let me tell you how Tylenol is not going to get it. So I caught the doctor and she said oh I"m surprised they didn't give you anything. So they gave me a shot of diluid in the iv and I started feeling much better. But basically I layed there until 2:00pm and they decided to keep me at this point. So after several tests and blood with drawls, they determined they could not find out what was wrong with me. After speaking with a cardiologist, and upper gi specialist and a regular in house dr they didn't know possible a pulled muscle. I was so irritated at this point that I just wanted to go home. Finally they discharged me and so far so good.

Hi,
I am glad you where able to go to the hospital.  Sadly enough, we have to beg and plead with hospital's to give us what we want.  I feel they work for me, since we pay our monthly high premium and deductible they should provide us with care without even having to ask.  My husband has been having heart pain and the doctor gave him tests, but we had to tell him we wanted an ultrasound to make sure everything is clear.  So it is like pulling teeth to get care.  Hope all is well and you don't have any more chest pain.  Pay attention to it though and be aware of anything different.  Best wishes to you,
Kristy

That doesn't sound like a very fun way to spend the day!!! You might want to get your potasium levels checked. I had similar symptoms a couple of times, ended up in the ER and they determined that my potasium was low, it affects the heart but doesn't show up as a heart problem most of the time. Anyway hope all stays good for you now.

Bless your heart. Sounds like you had an awful time at the ER. Glad the doc finally got you some pain meds. Hope all is well now.

Being a former er nurse I know exactly what you are talking about.  The long waits are horrible. The ER system in America is broken and unfortanetly people suffer.  That is the reason I got out of the er I oved the work and the patients but the care was so unsafe.

Take care,
Mary Jo
