tingly hands, numb legs (newbie)

New to this board.  I've had fibromyalgia since 1988.  I was pregnant with twins and all of a sudden my arms felt like they belonged to somebody else.  Downhill from there.  Didn't get a proper diagnosis until 1992.  From 1992-94 I could barely get off the couch.  I've had long periods of what I call "remission" and I've had really bad periods.  I've been feeling pretty good lately until I started having this numbness that is new.  It only happens after I've been asleep for a period of time.  I wake up with numb and tingly hands and also numb to the point of "I can't feel them" legs.  Usually only one leg or the other.  Not both at one time.  I got out of bed on Memorial Day, couldn't feel one of my legs touch the floor, so I fell and broke my big toe.  I've had the facial numbness on and off for years, but this numbness is new.  It's kind of freaking me out.  Just wondering if anyone else experiences this and what if anything they do about it?  Thanks.  Joanna

Well I'm sure no medical professional but I've never heard of numbness being part of fibro. Usually numbness is a neurological thing. Fibro is more a muscle pain and often accompanied with chronic fatigue. Have you seen a rheumatologist or neurologist to get a positive diagnosis? Maybe others here will have a different experience than me but as for myself there has been no numbness with the fibro, best of luck and do come back and join us here.

Hi Joanna,
I would go see your Dr. regarding this matter.  I don't think it would be a good idea to get your answer this important from a support group.  It could be something serious.  If not, come on back and we can all discuss it.  But see your PCP first.  Have you been see for all the numbness before.  I do sometimes get a feeling that I can't feel the ends of my toes.  I think that is part of the Fibro.  But I can't honestly give my opionion yet until you go to the doctor.  Fibro sisters must stick together and hopefully the other members will agree.  Best wishes and please keep us posted.
ps. Your problem could be seriously pinched nerves in the back that are creating the numbness.  Make an appointment soon, then go see a physical therapist for away to work out the kinks.

Joanna,
Hi there and welcome to the board........
I agree with both of the ladies above. It does not sound like any of the symptoms I have ever had or any of the fibromites I know have had. God knows we have a lot of syptoms....lol.....
Please go see your DOC SOON. it really sounds like something serious that needs to be checked out ok.....I have had this disease since 1979 when I three years old I started showing signs of it and pain all over. My daddy use to wrap me in hot towels to make the pain less intense. But yeah please go see your DOC soon!!
Best Wishes
Kimberly

Numbness and tingling can be a symptom of too much or too little B vitamins.  B6 can be toxic and the symptoms can mimic MS with numbness, tingling and fatigue.  I'd have a checkup and get all your vitamin levels checked.

Thank you!!  My B12 was really low.  I was getting a B12 shot every month.  Then a B12 shot every week.  Then it was too high on last blood tests.  Now I'm anemic and have been prescribed a prescription and over the counter iron supplement.  My surgery may even be postponed due to my labs.  I see my surgeon and nutritionist for a final visit to get a surgery date on June 4.  I will check with them, but I think that's it.  Thanks all!

You seem to have very serious symptoms.  Don't waste anymore time here.  I am a nurse and a fibermy sufferer and I am telling you, "Go to your  Doctor, now".  In fact if you can go directly to a neurologist.  And if he does not give you an answer go to another doc.  You have a serious medical problem.  Let me know how you do,  Good luck!! Joanna I saw a Neurologist not too long ago for my RLS and he said I didn't have RLS but neuropathy. Then he said the reason my hands were tingling all the time was because of carpal tunnel. I also have fibromyalgia but have not have the severe effects that you have had. I just can't get motivated and am tired all of the time. Go to see a neurologist and see what they say. They can shock your nerves and see how they respond to help with diagnoisis. Good Luck! Michelle

I had carpal tunnel from years of typing.  The symptoms went away over time since i quit spending 8 hours a day at a keyboard 15 years ago.  But the hand numbness does feel like carpal tunnel.  I have an appointment with my regular doctor later this month so I guess I will get a referral to a neurologist and a rhematologist.  My fibro doc retired some years ago and I just haven't bothered to find a new one.  I don't have RLS.  I got that checked out awhile back.  I'm hoping weight loss will help with some of the problems  My surgery is set for July 14.
