My doc put me on Nortriptyline in Dec. I'm taking (2 )of the-500 mg a day and he wants me to work up to 6 a day but they make me sleepy so I haven't done that. Since Jan. I have only lost 3 pds. I had rny in May 2008 and my total weight loss now is only 88 pds. I was doing good till this. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm thinking about coming off of it because I'm not sure it is helping  with my pain like it should.  I was on Lyrica before the surgery but it did not help either. Thanks for all the support everyone has given me this past year.

I've tried Cymbalta it made be feel like I was losing my mind an not being able to breathe.  I'm about afraid to try anything new. I'm not the kind to want to keep trying different meds surely not after RNY.

I was on that before surgery for 1 year and it did not change a thing. I came off the Nortriptyline 2 weeks ago and my pain has not changed so I don't think it was helping either. I did lose 3 pds in 2 weeks after coming off of it so I think it was part of my problem. Not sure what the rest of  the problem is my body has just came to a stand still. I want to lose 15-20 more but if that does not happen it's ok. I am smaller now than I have been in 32 years and feel better even though the fibro is still bad. I was hoping it would get better but knew that was probally not going to happen. I appreciate your response because no one else has said anything so I quess it something no one else has taken even though I posted it on the fibro board and not the regular one. Hope yours get better and maybe some one else will know something we can both try that might help.
Hope the warmer weather might help us and others that suffer too.

I have been on nortriptyline for a couple of years now. I went on it when i was diagnosed with fibro and although it has helped with my chronic muscle pain and sleep, I have also gained 55 pounds and i was already about 45 overweight> i am now considering lap band surgery as I have sleep apnoea and my cholesterol and blood pressure are rising(not to mention the pre-diabetic indicators I got in a blood test 2 days ago) It definitely slows your metabolism and makes you crave carbs. I am nervous about trying another drug in case it doesnt work.
