I heart my hepatologist

If you guys remember I posted about a week and a half ago about being in pain.  Well, I went to that hepatologist appt last week.  Nice guy.  He wasn't as concerned about my liver enzymes as my PCP was, but he is going to do an updated liver biopsy (last one was 14 years ago).  So, that biopsy is Monday the 30th and I can't have my beloved ibuprofen for 10 days before or 7 days after!

Yesterday I was in so much pain all i wanted to do was curl up in the fetal position and die.  I know you guys can related to that.  I finally called the rheumatologist but he wouldn't do anything for me because of the pending biopsy, he was deferring to the surgeon.  Well, that would be nice if a surgeon was doing the biopsy.  It's just a radiologist who I don't know and will meet about 5 minutes before the procedure.  ARGH!  So, I called the hepatologist - seeing as how he ordered the biopsy.  He called in Darvocet!  Darvocet is my new best friend!  And I'm in love with my hepatologist!  I took a pill before my class last night, knowing I wouldn't be driving for about 5 hours (class and lab).  I have a 15 minute break between class and lab and went to the restroom and had NO PAIN!  WOW!  By the time I got home, it was wareing off.  I took another one just before I got into bed.  While I didn't sleep long enough, I had a restful night of sleep!  The night before was horrible...there was no position I was comfortable in.  On the other hand, I didn't move at all last night!  And I didn't wake up in agony.

Okay, I just wanted to say how much I loved my new found friend and my hepatologist.

I go to the rheumatologist in about 2 weeks.  Hopefully, we'll be able to start a new drug for the lupus that will help with the inflammation...I don't think they'll prescribe me Darvocet indefinitely.

I would ask to be referred to a pain specialist on top of the rheumy doc. I got so much more relief from my pain specialist than I did from the rheumy doc......

Glad you finally got some relief. I like my darvocet too.....

I probably don't need a pain specialist right now, but wouldn't rule it out at a later time.  Usually, my pain and inflammation are able to be controlled with simple Tylenol or ibuprofen because long term, my autoimmune stuff is controlled by some "biologic" medication.  But right now, I'm not on any "biologic" medication.  Hopefully, that will be changed with the April 9th visit to the rheumie.  If it isn't, then yes, a pain specialist will be in order.  I can't live the way I felt yesterday.

Your still able to take ibuprofen after your WLS? Oh man I miss my 800mg motrins!! I lived off them damn things for YEARS! I now live off of my Opanas.
My 5 yr old has an auto immune but they have not pin pointed which one. Then they said Fibromyalgia. I asked them how they came up with fibro since it is not a auto immune disorder. They said basically cause nothing else fits.
How old was you when you started having the symptoms of Lupus?

Remember, I'm pre-op.  So, I can still have my ibuprofen - for now at least.  I will have to say goodbye to my friend once I have surgery.  But if they'll give me my new best friend, Darvocet after surgery, I'll be okay.

I was 24 going on 25 when I first started having autoimmune issues.  Lupus wasn't diagnosed until I was 28.
