I know they are just trying to help but...

First was the phone call from my bf's mother. "Do you take vitamin D? I just read that vitamin D deficiency can cause pain and fatigue and.." But I already take 2000 units of vitamin D per day. I truly appreciate her thinking of me though...

Then my mom and bf and I schlepped 2 hours in the car to my cousins twins first birthday party. And my (not related by blood) kooky aunt was there. She has fibro and some other stuff, and was telling me how I should get off the drugs (vicoden) and take aleve, and a whole list of supplements. I explained that with the RNY I can't take anti inflamatories, and she just insisted opiates were NO GOOD!

Opiates help me right now. I am going to pain management tomorow. I am open to other ideas.

And lest you all think me ungreatful, I also went online when we got home and ordered valerian, more vitamin D and reservital, all of which my aunt reccomended for me to try.

I am on 60 mg cymbalta, 20 mg amitriptyline and vicoden 5mg as needed. And right now it is needed, I am flaring for NO reason- the base of my skull to just under my shoulders. :(

NO VALERIAN WITH CYMBALTA!!!!!!! Never ever take herbal meds without checking with your doc first. The paperwork with my cymbalta said no St. John's Wort and valerian is very similar. Herbal is not necessarily better. Let your kooky aunt take whatever she wants but mixing Rx and herbal can be deadly, literally! I know we are all desperate but please don't jeopordize your safety.

The vit D is something to be concerned  about though. My surgeon's office put me on a percription strength 1 a week and I thought my fibro was acting up but felt better after the D. When I had to change PCP's this last 2 months they did a test and I am STILL too low and they added to my weekly and again I felt even better. I was just talking to another lady that had RNY and she is on persription D and hers is still low. Granted that up here in Maine low sunshine winter etc many are low D but it is a concern to anyone that had surgery.
I am just mentioning this because i tryuly was amazed how much better I felt with more D. But may have to take persription strength.
I have been thinking of trying the cymbalta.
