Can a pain specialist diagnose fibromyalgia?

No question is stupid! I'm not real sure, maybe some can, you would probably have to ask them. We usually start with a rheumatologist but all they really need to do is check for trigger points and symptoms so theoretically a pain specialist could do the same test if he knows what to look for. My chiropractor initially diagnosed me which was good because at the time he was checking my trigger points I didn't know what he was doing so I was able to give unbiased answers. However my PCP wanted an official diagnosis from the rheumy. So my answer is I definately, positively ... don't know! lol

I think they can. They should be able to since they are MDs. For official use like for disability though you would probably have to go to the Rhumey

Although it was my PCP that originally diagnosed my fibro, my pain management doctor also diagnosed me.  So, I guess the answer would be yes.  At least in my case.

Take care,

Terry

NO question is stupid, only the ones that don't get asked...I remember someone saying that before. Anyway, you can ask away over here.

Leaving work be back on later !!
Nice to see you on the boards
