Anyone taking Lyrica?
Hi everyone,
Is anyone taking Lyrica for their fibro? I started on it about a month ago and gained about 5 pounds in a week and it scared me so I stopped. The doctor is insisting I give it a try. He said the usual dose for fibro is 400 mg per day. I am only taking 100 mg right now and am supposed to work myself up to 200 mg next week, then go see him. Has anyone had weight gain and if so do you think it's water weight? My fibro is really bad right now and I definitely need something.
But I am so scared I am going to gain weight or it's going to keep me from losing any more. I had RNY last July and I have about 40 more pounds to lose. Any of your experiences, good or bad with Lyrica would be helpful. Thank you so much.

I tried Lyrica for about a month and gained 10 lbs! So quit taking it, recently tried Cymbalta and it works great with no weight gain. Others have said they have great out comes with Opana so there are indeed other drugs to use. Weight gain is an expected side effect of Lyrica so ask (or insist) your doc give you something else. We didn't go thru the difficulty of WLS to turn around and take a drug that makes us gain. Good luck!
I'm new to FM, havent been diagnosed yet. I dont even take anything for it yet either, but I've read alot of message boards and a good many do experience water weight gain with Lyrica... even to the point of swelling. I think that if I were you, I'd try to lower my sodium intake and bump up fluid intake (if thats possible) and give it a fair trial. If nothing else at least your doctor will feel like you have given this a fair shake, and if it doesnt work for you, you know he'll be more likely to go ahead and switch rather than ask you to try it again.
I took Lyrica for 2 months, and also gained weight with it, bit I developed Edema in both my feet, and legs so bad I was at the ER. They told me I had Congestive Heart Failure because of the fluid, and was put on 80mg's of Lasik, and Potassium. I was in so much pain for a very long time, and I never want anyone else to go through that. It was rough.
Be watchful.
