Oxy shortage!
Anyone else getting slammed with this oxycodone shortage? I couldn't get any last time I tried to get a refill. Doc switched me to morphine but I don't care for it much, doesn't last the full 12 hours and makes me fuzzy brained and I don't need help in that department!I'm hoping some of the minor side effects will wear off soon since I've only been on it for a couple of days.
Not trying to start a panic or anything but at least here in my area and from what I read on the internet about the shortage it will be nation wide eventually. I didn't think I'd ever have any problems because my pharmacy always had it on hand before, but last time they said no can do especially for a months worth, they just can't get them. It seems that 2 of the 5 companys that produce it aren't making it anymore and the DEA has a limit on how much can be produced a year and so the other companies can't pick up the slack because they can only manufacture so much. Now I'm all for the whole DEA and keeping drugs off the streets!!! I can't emphasis that enough and there are for sure leaks that need to be stopped. However it shouldn't be at the expense of those of use with chronic pain.
The morphine seems to be working pretty good and my pharmacist said if it's not working well enough that I can take one more dose a day if I need it. I was able to get 60 oxys today and will only use them if I have really bad break thru pain. Thank God I'm really close with the pharmacy girls, good thing I took 'em those cookies at Christmas! They caught me when I came in for something else earlier today and told me they had some in and to get a script from the doc. I already had a call in to him so it was waiting when I got there. I'm able to just call the doc and pharmacy and get all this worked out. I just feel for those folks with post op pain from any kind of surgery that need pain relief. It just makes for a more difficult time for those of us who do need pain relief on a daily basis.
Nanner you are a little scamp!

As far as I know it's only the oxys and my doc switched me to morphine which seems to be working. My understanding is that the DEA is the big problem because they won't approve an increase in the working manufacturers amount to cover the shortage by the other plants closing. Buracratic red tape and all that garbage. So like I say as far as I know it's just the oxys, but so many people use them for break thru pain it's gonna be a hardship for alot of people!
That is horrible! Looks like they would care enough to up production you know. I bet if half of them bureaucrats had to take it on a daily basis they would up production in a heart beat!!
Which morphine does your doc have you on?? I am pretty happy with mine so far. I seem to have ALLOT of break through pain recently though. Have you seen an increase in your breakthrough pain since you started taking the morphine? This morning I woke up SO stiff! OMG I hurt all over feels like I was beat in my sleep....
anyway I hope your doing OK.......pain free and all that. Me over here I am sitting around waiting for my hubby to come home. 18 more days and I will get to see him again. You know out of everything the one main thing I miss are the daily hugs. I miss them so much more than I ever would have dreamed possible that and sleeping on his shoulder.
anyhoooooo my baby girl lost her first tooth last night and she just found her tooth fairy money so I am gonna go talk with her. hope your doing OK....talk to you later on

Well I'm not where I can get to my Rx but I think they are 30 mg 2x a day and they seem to be working well, actually I get them for my back pain but they help the fibro too. My doc said I can take my limited supply of oxys for breakthru pain but haven't had alot of that since my gaba works pretty well for that. The only thing I dislike about the morphine is it makes me alot more fuzzy brained than the oxys did. I agree if the DEA people had to live with chronic pain you can bet there'd be a huge supply!
You must be so excited about hubby coming home! We aren't real huggy kissy folks but we're best friends. However we are older in our 60s so friendship is a wonderful thing. Besides I got so used to being in pain for so long that I think we kinda forgot about it cause he didn't want me to hurt everytime he gave me a hug. Oh how sweet your little one got her first tooth fairy money. Kids make holidays and tooth loss so much more fun. Enjoy her while you can next thing you know she'll have little ones of her own, it all happens sooooooo fast! You have a good as pain free a day as you can.

So THAT'S what my surgeon was talking about! I got a script called Capital instead of Liquid Oxy to take home post surgery. She said there had been some kind of recall on Oxy.
I could never get my questions about it clarified, and this other stuff worked just as well.
My regular second line pain med is Tramadol.
