Hi, everyone,

My surgeon wanted me to try going off of Lyrica due to the weight gain side effects. I have fibromyalgia and some neuropathy (from my diabetes). So my PCP wrote the prescription for a lower dose last week; and I am tapering off of it slowly.

If you have quit taking Lyrica, can you share your your dosage regimes? Also, can you fill me in on any good and bad experiences you've had with being off of it?

Thanks in advance!

I recently quit Lyrica for the same reason--weight gin.  I did not notice any difference in my pain levels once I was off the Lyrica.

Cymbalta is my primary pain reliever with Vicodin as needed.

Hugs,

Deb

Hello,

You have probably got your answer by now but I thought I would just share mine too.  I was put on Lyrica over the summer but had a reaction after three days....lips getting numb.  So I stopped immediately without any problems.  I was then put on Cymbalta and that has helped keeps things subdued for the most part along with pain killers once in a awhile and a muscle relaxer every night.  Technically with any medicine you should slowly titrate down, however, with Lyrica it would be ok or if you are having a reaction then stopping immediately will not be harmful...you might experience headache, nausea and possible increase in pain.  Oh and on cymbalta haven't noticed any weight gain side effects in fact because it is a antidepressant component it can sometimes assist with weight loss.  Good luck!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences.

I am about two weeks into a month of reduced dosages. I am experiencing a lot of pain; but feel that I need to do this in order to help with my weight loss. Also, looking back over my health diary, my brain fog has worsened since I started Lyrica. It may have been co-incidental; but hopefully I'll know for sure soon.

I've been on Lyrica now for 2 years and the doc has reduced the dosage.  I want to get off of it.  I blame it for making me hungry!  I have put 25 lbs and I'm very frustrated.  I'm going to have my nerve tested in my legs again......... and tell them I want to stop lyrica.  I was doing fine with my weight loss and its gone down hill since this.  I would rather take more oxycocet instead of the lyric.    I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who experienced weight gain onthis med.

my doc blames part of my not being able to loose weight on the lyrica and tried to take me off of it we had to go back on a low dose.  It can cause water weight gain.

The other things I find that has drastically happened is my vision. blurry blurry, I never reached for magnify glasses until I used Lyrica and didn't put the two together. I have read the package info and found a side affect is blurriness and its all the time. I didt have this when I was not taking it. One more reason to discountinue the use.

I was on 300mg of Lyrica twice a day.   60 mg of Cymbalta twice a day.  I have gained back 40 pounds.  When I was taking the Lyrica I had a lot of short term memory loss.  I am known for being able to be give a single word topic and I can recite conversations about it from months ago.

This severly impaired my ability to continue my job.  One day the doc took me off the Lyrica and put me on Trazadone 50 mg at night only.

I now have a bit more pain.   But I also have my memory back and I don't feel as though I am moving through a fog all the time.

Honestly I aged 20 years in brain power in 2 months of Lyrica.
