Hi Dennis,
Your wife sounds lucky to have a guy like you that loves her so much. My hubby tries so hard to understand what I am going through too but it seems to be hard on him, he worries about me so much.
The acupuncture, never tried it and this is the reason why. Fibromyalgia will fight you tooth and nail. What i mean by that is like......If you poke needles in you and you have fibro, that spot where they places that needle is going to flare BAD and its gonna HURT. Me I personally would not try it beccause I know my fibro is one mean SOB!!
For example, I had a medial block done to my back due to fibro, facets disease and degenitertive disk disease. It was suppose to relieve some of the pain in my back. Instead it down the oposite for me. Every spot they placed a needle falred so bad I was in the bed for a week crying. Not even the morphine the doc gave me help it any. So she gave me some sleep aids an I just slept the pain off.
So nah acuputure I will leave that to the brave fibro folks...not me......LOL....I chicken ****

Hello,

I use a multidisapline approach to my fibro.  I see a rheumie, a neuro, and a chiro (I also have degenerative disk disease).  My chiro recently received advanced training in accupuncture and asked if I would like to try it free for a paper she was writing.  Oh, my goodness, did it help me.  So much so that, I save to have treatments since neither of my insurance will pay for it.  If I am in a bad way and dont have the money at the moment (money being a big issue at my house since I have two disable children) she will treat me anyway.

For me at least, accupuncture is realitively painless.  Chiropractic, is another story, I often accuse my doc of torture, but in the long run it keeps me going, without it I lose function and fast.

Well just like everything else with fibro my accupuncture treatments did nothing for me. It was relaxing but didn't help the pain at all. That's the big problem with fibro, what works great for one person doesn't phase another. So I'd say have her give it a try. The worst that can happen is she ends up a little holey and sore. It just may help her and if so hooray for her! Is she seeing a rheumatologist or someone who specializes in fibro treatment because that can make all the difference in staying as comfortable as possible. She needs someone who will give her the pain meds she needs with out having to fight for them all the time like some folks do. Best of luck to her and I also applaud you for sticking by her side, she's a very lucky lady like many others of us here!

What a man! . It is so refreshing to find a hubby that understands and wants to help his wife with this FMS.

I have considered accupunture but since I am on disability I am financially unable to try this or much needed massage therapy, water aerobics or physical therapy.

Please let us know how she does with the accupunture. I feel it is worth a try!!!

I have just started acupuncture this month and I wish I had taken my co-worker's advice and did it sooner. After only 4 treatments I have seen improvement. I am in a fibro flare, no crisis, now. I could not even think clearly enough to tell the doc what was wrong or how I was feeling. After one treatment my husband noticed right away the difference in my interaction with him.

My insurance covers it at a reduced rate and my husband's insurance fully covers 10 treatments a year. It is so worth every cent paid and every once of energy I have to drag myself out of the house.
