Well as everyone here knows it has been one hell of a week. Not only is the storms coming in and causing me pain my fibro is acting up and I am in a hell of a flare.
I was wondering if you could tell me how your weight loss went. I had RNY july 29th and have lost 65 lbs so far. I am worried that because my fibro acts up so bad I will not be able to exercise like I should be able to. Will I still be able to lose the weight even if I cannot get in as much exercise as I should? How did yours work out?
Thanks in advance
Kimberly

Well I had different surgery and lose slower because of it but hit a standstill about 6 mos. ago because of fibro and back pain I simply can't move. I lost 60 lbs but half of that was pre-op so really only lost 30 after surgery and like I say nothing for months.

I had my RNY 6 months ago and my fibro has only flared once since then.  It seems to get better all the time.  I have lost 95 lbs.  and feel better than ever.  I work out as often as I can but usually always start with some basic stretches for my muscles.  It helps so much.

Good luck with your process.  Remember attitude is half the battle.  Living with
Fibro is never easy but it does get better.

Hi Kimberly,

I had an RNY in June of 06, I still have flare ups with my FMS. I do exercise when my body allows me to, sometimes I force myself to get out and walk through the pain ( it is not easy though) . I had a doctor introduce me to the " 10 step program for walkers"  it is............ get dressed and ready for your walk, take 10 steps out the door. If you want to turn around and come back you can, most people end up going for the full walk.  I have used this method frequently, it does work.  I know it is hard though, when you ar in pain and in a flare up. Unfortunatly, the FMS does not go away after having WLS. I too was hoping mine would vanish, but no such luck.

                                            Blessings to you, Phyllis

Thanks you all for writing in! It does help to know that I am not alone in this fight. My Fibro I do not think will ever get any better. I have gave up on that fight. I am still trying with my weightloss. I am so worried I will fail in this attempt along with a whole long line of others.
My birds keep me going I think. If it was not for them there are days I would not get out of the bed. They cannot take care of themselves so I must get up and take care of them.
I bought me 3 more yesterday. I bought a black masked lovebird and a baby rosey bourke and a pair of english budgies.
Do any of you share your home with birds?

I had open RNY 3/2004 and over a period of 3 years lost 120lbs without excercising. I had started at 269 and got down to 144 just slightly below my goal weight of 150.  I had a rapid loss the first year of 85lbs but it took another two years to lose the rest. I had severe fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, violent migraines with vomiting and nausea. It was an awful period, it was so bad I did end up on Social Security Disability. The last year my health has improved tremendously which I attribute to my wonderful specialist, so much so that I am going back to school part-time this January.

So don't despair, the weight will slowly creep off. If it helps just go for a 5 minute walk 3times a day, 4 days a week and that way you will be doing some excercise to improve your spiritis and your waistline .

I felt alot better the 1st 6 months. I think i just wasnt as stressed, i lost 100 lbs the first 6 months. I did use stretch bands and exercise bands too. They are easy to use. Anything is better than nothing. Hope you are drinking your protein. I did great with it at first. Need to get back to it. I know it makes me feel better, I do get alot from food now but any more wont hurt. Best wishes and do what you can and stick to basics, it will fall off, I have lost about 95 more i lost the 1st 100

Hey Kimberly,
I can totally understand about not being able to excersise due to pain.  Now I started out at 440 pounds and I now average about 128 to 132.
I stay active working, my job is pretty physical and I push through the pain.
Some days I wanna curl up and ask someone to please put me out of my misery.
I do have some good days where there is no pain, then I sit there and think ok when is the pain coming back?  So even when I;m not in pain I am worried about when its gonna hit me again. :(
I do alot of stretching.  I sit on the floor and stretch my legs, back and arms.  It seems to get the tightness out of my muscles and does help a bit...but it never lasts long.
So in a nutshell, I don't excersise.  I work, come home, ***** moan complain, try to eat, go to sleep and then do it all over again.
Great life eh?
You aren't alone sweetie.
BTW...My home is Georgia..I was born and raised in Norcross/Lilburn.
Hugs,
Donna

Thank you all for writing in. It gives me hope that you all was successful in losing the weight. I am in a stall and a flare all at the same time. Yesterday I went for a medial block in my spine and let me tell you OMG I am in such pain you would not believe!! They said it would help my pain OH NO not the case here....She said she injected pain meds, I want to know when they will kick in cause I sure do not feel any of them! My doc bless her heart she is trying she really is. I know I am complicated to say the least. It seems like everything we try backfires on us. BUT thankfully she prescribes me enough pain meds to get me through the rough spots. before I found this doc they would prescribe like 10 pills at a time an that would last like maybe a week. Then it was like what now? This one gives me 120 opanas at a time. I am gonna ask her to up my dosage. I do not think the dosage is right I think it is to low. 5mg just isn't cutting it.
Well I better hush, thank you all again for writing in it does help to know I am not alone in this fight....they will find a cure for us, we just have to stay strong an pray!
