Hello! I have not had WLS yet, but I was wondering if you could tell me if your symptoms got better, or worse after WLS. (If you were diagnosed before surgery) I know your answers will be different, but maybe it will give me a good idea of what to expect. Also, do any of you have ringing in your ears?? I went to a specialist a year ago when it started, and he said I was looing my hearing, and there could be "many" reasons why I have the ANNOYING ringing. I did not realize until recently that it could be yet another symptom of fibromyalgia..Lucky us. Thanks for all your input!

I think for the most part WLS doesn't really help fibro other than you do feel better in general getting the weight off. In fact I'm a year out and have an appt. tomorrow to see my doc because I'm hurting so bad. Since fibro is basically a muscle disease the weight loss doesn't help but it will improve any pain in your joints from the excess weight. I've never heard of ear ringing being associated with fibro, I think I would push a little and try to get a more difinitive answer to that, it could be something entirely unrelated and maybe even fixable.

I think wls has not made a difference on my fibro either. If anything it makes the meds work different. Not as good it seems.
Be careful these docs will tell you the sky is blue because you have fibro just so they will not have to look deeper......

My fibro and arthritis has not gotten better. I do feel a little better without all of the weight but I still have some off the same symptoms.

I was so disappointed at first because it is no better. I took it for granted that losing a hundred pounds would help with the fatigue--but it has not. I did not find this forum til way after my surgery or I would have been forewarned. Do I regret this surgery? NO! I am so much more comfortable now. This surgery has been a huge blessing. I have only read from one person who said her symptoms had all gone away--I just figure that she had been misdiagnosed in the first place. Have fun with your weight loss journey. Christine

Thanks to all of you for your input! I have my first talk with the surgeon tomorrow and this will be one of my decidng factors on if I get the RNY or the DS. I use a LOT of ibuprofin for my pain, and it generally works very well along with relaxation tech, etc. But with RNY I cant take it...go figure! LOL Again, thank you all very much!

Hi, I had Rous N Y on 1/29/08.  ( I am 54 yrs old).  SO far I have lost 120 pounds.  I have about 25 more to go.   I have diabetes (off meds since 2 weeks post op), degenerative disc disease (pain is better), asthma (better), Sleep apnea (better), Depression (overall better since WLS), Chronic Fatigue (still up and down), And Fibromyalgia.  I can't really say the Fibro is any better or worse, but the other stuff being better overall decreased my overall pain.  I was on 11 medications and now only five.  So overall it is better.  Have been on disbility since 2001 d/t fibromyalgia.  Was DX in 1993 after years of symptoms.  I was approved the first time I applied for disability.  (due to the memory problems- I think).  I am a nurse.  I had short term disability then long term disabiility thru work,  but was still hard financially.  I went from $50,000.00 a year to 16,000.00 per yr.  For the last 4 years I have worked 6 hours per week.  Helps financially and self esteem.   Physically can't do more, and sometimes can't even do that much.

Now I have a question.  I have been overweight basically all of my adult life.  I need plastic durgery for tummy tuck and breast lift.  Have always had large breasts but I don't know if I need augmenting after lift or not.  Haven't seen anyone for it yet.  Want to get all my weight off first.  MY BIG QUESTION IS THIS.  Is there anyone here that has had plastic surgery (esp with breasts  augmentation) and did it make your fibro worse?  Does the body react to the foreign (saline or silicone) implants?  I was very fatigued for months after the weight loss surgery.  So if anyone can enlighten me please do... Also have had a drainage (sometimes foul smelling and red irritated) thru my belly button since surgery so I may have an umbilical hernia that may need to be repaired.  Has anyone with disability, Medicare insurance, ever gotten a tummy tuck paid for because of a hernia repair?  Thanks for sharing.
