I went for my first visit with them this morning... took 3 hours!!  The Doctor was alright but the Nurse Pract was a *(&$(% ... I wanted to knock her lights out.  The first thing that she said to me was "We really only treat athritis back and neck pain, not fibromyalgia"  and was so ignorant the entire visit.  She kept coming in and out making smart remarks like - "Have you thought about losing weight that would help with your pain, would you like me to ref you to a NUT?" and "Narcotics don't help with Fibro pain" and my favorite "You have to sign an agreement that we will be the only office prescribing pain medication to you and you have to take a drug test first" ... is she kidding me.. she didn't even care about how I felt or what I have been through.

The doctor was much better but he was only in there for 4 mins at the most.  He said that he is going to try Nortriptylin and Fentanyl 25mcg patch every 72 hours.  So we will see what happens.

Not sure if I will be going back to them or not... going to look for a Fibro doctor or someone who is familiar with Fibro and KNOWS it is REAL!!

I found I have to be my own advocate with my fibro treatment because soooo many people are just like that ignorant nurse! One, loosing weight does nothing for fibro, it may help some joint pain but our pain is muscular and I've read many times here that just like myself weight loss does nothing for fibro pain relief. Two, narcotics most certainly do help fibro pain! I've taken 5 mg oxycodone 4x aday for over a year now and without it I can't hardly get out of bed. No I havn't had to keep upping my dose like so many have said I would because I'd build up a tolerence. Yes I guess in the sense that I would have withdrawls if I quite cold turkey I'm "addicted", however without it I have no life anyway! I guess I can see getting drug tested first and signing an agreement because there are an awful lot of people *****ally do abuse their pain meds. My doc gives me an Rx for one months worth of pills and then I have to get a new one. I know if I ever once abused his trust in me I wouldn't be able to get anymore meds so I'm not about to mess with my life saving meds. I wish you much luck and if you aren't real familiar with fibro do get on the internet and investigate, that's what I did and there are some very good sites out there. There is no reason for any of us to live with constant pain so just keep at it and like I said, be your own best advocate.

Just a PS to my above post if you haven't seen a rheumatologist yet that may be better than the pain clinic because rheumatologists are the ones that treat fibro even tho there is pain involved. Pain clinics quite often do only deal with neck and back pain which doesn't really meet our specific needs. Good luck!

Thanks!!  I have seen one but she said to just stay on the same treatment plan I was on with my PCP - 1 to 4 lortab 10 a day (for me it changed - never have I taken more than 4 in one day) plus the lyrica and flexeril... but my pcp told me i needed to go to a pain clinic...

I am going to make a new appointment with a rhematologist, I have called quite a few to see if they believe in and treat fibro... so we will see.

On a side note - the Fentynal patch is helping for the constant all day pain... but it just rained and I think I still need a 'break through' pain releaver.

thanks for your support!!
