Pain Patches?

I am in the midst of another fibro flare up. Here is the problem...vicodin only helps so long and it goes quickly through my short intestine resulting in needing more and more. Lyrica is all of the sudden not working for me. I feel like a freaking drug addict asking over and over for pain medication. The pain is intolerable at times and I have slept very little the past 4 days. I made yet another appt. w/my PCP for tomarrow..I swear I go more than anyone I know. I am going to ask for a pain patch but I am unknowlagable about any pain patches. Does anyone have experience with them? I have major malabosorption issues and any oral pills I take go through very quickly.  I need a large dose of pain medicine in order for it to be effective.  I hate the withdraws of coming off these meds..whats the alternative?  I can't live like this.

There are morphine patches and fentanyl patches.  I personally have never used them but know of people who have and they say they work great. Best of Luck! Jill

I take the pain patch. They work pretty good for me. I am on 50 mcg in the spring and summer and the fall and winter I have to double the dose. I get the worse pain when it gets colder out. The mcg are stronger than mg. I notice you had a mons repair. I will need one when I am done loosing weight. Was it real painful? Tell what they do ? I never had one done when I lost 100 lbs but I just had a revision of my rny to erny. I would email you privately but it won't let me. What do they acutally do to the mons. It feel like I have to wear a bra in the mons area. It sags like mens genital's and I hate it. Dawn

I am on 50 mcg Fentanyl and take the Hydrocodone for short acting drug. There is alot on the pain management boards, i visit healthboards and read up on it alot.They work well for me.  Shannon

Sorry to hear your having a bad time, I so hate that.  I was given 5 scripts for pain and muscle spasms, one was a patch, but it was lidocaine, which is more topical, like being packed with ben-gay w/o the smell, I have to say, it wasn't heavy duty, but it did offer some relief, you can wear them for 12 hrs.

ask your doc about roxicet. I too have FM and lyrica is not working for me since I had my RNY. They put me on Roxicet and darvacet and oh my the roxicet is like magik in a bottle for me. It works soooooo fast!!
Have you tried the pressure point injections? I have heard they work really good too. I have not tried them yet I am to chicken....

I think you should go to a pain specialist. My PCP would not give me a pain patch because he said he is not qualified to do so. There are laws and rules that the doctor must follow. My Pain specialist does not treat me like a drug addict at all. He knows that I need a drug patch. Good luck !

Fently patches - I do 50 mcg and function good.  On the days I have break through pain which seems to be a lot right now I use the hydrocodone.  I tried all the pain meds they could give and I had reactions to them....I don't have FM but Post Herpatic Pain which has been with me over a year now.  I have noticed being on these meds that I have lost my appetite to eat.  Lost more weight without trying to lose.  Withdraws are tough and what I am most afraid of at this point.  I feel that my med dosage has been moving upward but not by much thankfully.  I hope to wake up one day and not feel this pain.  I never realized how bad pain really makes a person feel.

The patches last me three to four days.  By the fourth day I am in more pain.  So I really try to keep it at three days.  They have been the only meds I have taken that I can do daily function stuff.
