Thanks for the replys... A little more about me
Hi guys,
Thanks for the replys, I have a pcp, but she refered me to this Doc who is a physiatrist-- pain management. He at least does treat the pain but really for my other conditions not the Fibro. In all reality I didnt really listen to the fibro diagnosis because it gets so much mixed reactions from people. I am lucky that I have a great husband who totally knows I am in pain and not faking. As far as anyone else I dont share my medical stuff my mom hates docs and meds and anything like that. She of coarse also doesnt want me to have surgery and I lied and told her I wouldnt. Isnt that crazy??? Lieing at the age of 37 to my mom??? All I heard was *****ing and moaning for a month strait about not doing that to my body and just eat right and excercise like everyone else. I now dont bring it up and when I have surgery it will be for "female troubles" I have endometreosis and so she knows I have surgerys every 4 or 5 years to cut that out so I am saying it is that again. After I loose the weight I may or may not tell her I will see.
As far as my doc goes though I am lucky that i get pain meds on time every month no problems. I had to sign a agreement 3 years ago with him that had a bunch of stipulations and I had to agree to urine drug screens if asked. I have never once been asked to submit one. I have also never lost, got stolen or asked for my meds earlier that a day or two if I am out of town. Some people have made it so hard for others in this day and time. I am lucky to get what I get.
Good day to all
Christina
We are indeed fortunate to have docs that will trust us and give the pain meds neccesary. It's shameful that so many people have to go with out pain relief because docs are afraid they MIGHT abuse them. I read where people with legitimate pain rarely abuse the drugs because they only use them properly and not to "get high". I've known my doc long enough and he knows me well enough that we are both very open and honest with each other. He's made it clear that if I abuse my meds in any way that he'll cut me off in a heart beat. Since I never want that to happen I won't abuse his trust or the drugs.
As far as mom's go mines pretty great, she's always been over weight too so understands the issue. Some moms just never learn to let go. I was always encouraged by both parents to inform myself then make mine own decisions. Makes life awhole lot easier. Good luck on your surery!
It's never been told to my face, but I have a feeling that I have been labled a "drug seeker".
No, not a "drug seeker" a "IwannabeouttathisfreakinPAIN" seeker.
People who experience REAL pain are not drug addicts.
I was put on Lyrica. I began to gain weight and freaked, went off of it and realised I cannot live in pain so I went back on it.
It is helping but I feel like I am in a daze all the time.
I actually prefer NOT to be on narcotics but Lyrica is actually classified as a class C drug (controlled substance) which blows my mind. I can totally see me popping 5 lyrica to get high lol ya right.
Hydrocodone, oxycodone, and other narc's I don't like much because they don't last long in our systems (RNY patients) due to our short intestine.
I prefer lyrica because it maintains a level in the blood and is not a in and out kind of deal like narcotics.
I actually am maintaining my weight loss and not gaining now.
There are break through pains somtimes for which I take tylenol (like it helps haha) but I try to stay off the narcs because even though they do help, it is only temporary.
I am glad you have a doctor that helps you and believes your pain.
My doctor does also however he is paranoid about writing scripts for narcs now what with all the celebrity deaths lately.

I tried the Lyrica too and just couldn't handle the weight gain and it made my kinda fuzzy brained (don't need help in that dept.!) It worked great for the fibro pain but did nothing for my arthritic, degenerating back pain so figured since I had to take the oxy for that and the oxy also helps the fibro pain I may as well just stick with the one that works on both pains. With the band it's just too easy to start stuffing my face when I'm hungry. I wish the Lyrica had worked for both pains but I guess we just have to pick our own poisons and work with what we can get that works.
